Mobile handshake, agreement

AT&T will be the exclusive provider of a mobile offering available to rural service providers members of the National Content & Technology Cooperative (NCTC). The deal will enable NCTC members to offer mobile services without having to build their own mobile networks.

NCTC has approximately 700 members that serve one third of the U.S. geographically.

NCTC AT&T Deal

According to a press release, “NCTC member companies will be offered a custom onboarding experience, where the organizations can fine-tune every step of the mobility experience – including personalizing 200+ touchpoints throughout the mobile customer lifecycle.”

That is an apparent reference to a deal that NCTC announced in late February with software-as-a-service provider Reach.

When that agreement was announced, NCTC said members would be able to:

  • Choose from three onboarding options.
  • Bundle broadband service with mobile.
  • Have their own app in the Google Play/App Store where their customers can sign up, activate and manage their plans.
  • Receive real-time analytics to their mobile product offerings and gauge conversion, purchase-to-activation ratio, churn rates, promotions, influencer campaigns and other metrics.
  • Select custom onboarding experiences including personalization of 200+ touchpoints throughout the mobile customer lifecycle.

At that time, NCTC said it would reveal the identity of its MVNO partner in the “coming weeks.”

The NCTC AT&T deal makes good on MVNO plans that NCTC CEO Lou Borelli told Telecompetitor about when he assumed that position in mid-2022, although the agreement took somewhat longer than expected to formalize.

NCTC may be best known as the organization that negotiates deals with content providers on behalf of its members, but the organization’s mission has broadened in recent years.
