Stopmotion
Directed by Robert Morgan
Ella Blake is a stop-motion animator who is struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother. Suddenly alone in the world, she embarks upon the creation of a macabre new puppet film, which soon becomes the battleground for her sanity. As Ella’s mind starts to fracture, the characters in her animated film take on a terrifying life of their own, and the unleashed power of her imagination threatens to destroy her.
A struggling stop-motion animator is haunted by her own creations in this acclaimed and nightmarish vision from director Robert Morgan.

Definitely moody, but slow-to-get-started and meandering; fires in many directions but fails to resolve most of the interesting conflicts and questions it raises. And, unfortunately, the main gimmick, which is a back-and-forth between stopmotion and real-life, is criminally underused. Caoilinn Springall absolutely steals every scene she appears in, though. All-in-all, hit-and-miss, and the subject matter (obsessive mental decay) is handled with more aplomb in Bailey-Bond's Censor.
3 skulls from me. Interesting concept but just didn’t fully engage me.
Not the best executed story but it worked as an amazing piece of art definitely made me uncomfortable and upset, better than most mainstream horror media
Solid
Again, 3.5 rather than a full 4. Top-tier stop motion animation, and the concept is absolutely brilliant. And it was very clever how everything tied up at the end. But my god was it BORING. So dull. Had no right to be as bloody dull as it was. Such a strong film otherwise! But the characters were limp and lifeless, completely stagnant energy at a stationary plateau throughout - even the "twists" were highly predictable. HOWEVER, it is worth the investment. It IS. Fantastic art direction and deeply upsetting theme.
