UPDATED:

Yu Darvish is suddenly without a timetable altogether.

The veteran right-hander has been placed on Major League Baseball’s restricted list, Padres manager Mike Shildt announced on Saturday afternoon.

“He’s dealing with a personal matter involving his family,” Shildt said. “Clearly, we want to respect his privacy. He wants to make sure everybody knows he’s physically in a good spot. He’s still working on his craft. But he is going to step away right now and deal with some things on a personal level, and we’re going to love and support him. He’s part of the Padre family.

“But at the moment, he’s going to take a break from the team.”

Players on the restricted list are removed from the 40-man roster and do not collect pay.

The restricted list is also indefinite.

“We have no timeline on it,” Shildt said. “The only thing we want to do, the primary thing, rather, we want to do is just making sure Yu feels loved and supported by his Padres family.”

Darvish has not pitched since May 29, as he hit the injured list with a groin strain and saw his comeback halted late last month with elbow inflammation.

It’s the second time that Darvish, 37, has been on the injured list this year, as he missed a little more than two weeks in April with a neck strain.

Darvish is 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA, 53 strikeouts and 15 walks in 56 ⅓ innings.

He was due $16 million this season and is under contract through 2028 via the six-year, $108 million extension signed before the start of the 2023 season.
