Today, the magnitude of the climate challenge and the urgent need for collective action are no longer subject to debate. Renault Group is making concrete and wide-ranging contributions to carbon emissions reduction, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and worldwide by 2050.

Acting throughout the vehicle's life cycle

Our carbon emissions have been reduced across the board: in the materials and parts we purchase, at production sites, on-road emissions, second life as well as recycling... 
the whole vehicle life cycle has been optimized to reduce our footprint.

Our action plan for shaping the future

Renault Group’s climate project is composed of nine main actions. They will be gradually rolled out across the Group until 2030, an interim milestone toward our ambition of carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and worldwide by 2050.

With our suppliers
Six materials and components account for 90% of our carbon footprint from purchased parts:

steel, aluminium, polymers, electronics, lenses, and tires. By 2030, by channelling our efforts towards these six components, we hope to have reduced their carbon footprint by 30%.
We will reach our target so long as we can foster a shared commitment with our key supply partners.
To this end, we are working with our suppliers to implement carbon reporting for future projects.

We also aim to have batteries that are green, carbon-free, and sustainable. By 2030, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our batteries by 35%, by implementing low-carbon sourcing of batteries and materials like nickel, lithium and cobalt.

At our production sites

We are reducing the carbon footprint of our facilities. Tangiers is already carbon neutral. Our Flins plant will be Europe's first carbon negative plant dedicated to the circular economy.
By 2025, our ElectriCity plants in the North of France will be net zero carbon, as well as all our European plants, by 2030.

To avoid the use of fossil fuels at its manufacturing sites, Renault Group is working with a network of partners to make the transition to renewable energies, including photovoltaic, geothermal and biomass initiatives.



Decarbonization of all European facilities by 2030
When in use

In Europe, the Group will achieve a 35% reduction in vehicle emissions by 2025, and 65% by 2030. The goal of the Renault brand is to be a 100% electric brand by 2030.

The electrification of the Renault and Alpine ranges and the Mobilize offer will contribute directly to this objective. As will the development and manufacture of efficient internal combustion and hybrid powertrains by the new Horse entity. HYVIA's range of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles will also contribute. HYVIA is targeting a 30% share of this market in Europe by 2030 and has already booked orders worth €1 billion up to 2026.

During dismantling and recycling

Thanks to the Flins Refactory and The Future Is NEUTRAL entity, our dismantling, component recycling, and battery businesses will generate more than €1 billion in sales in 2030.
By recycling minerals contained in batteries through various partnerships, we shore up a responsible and sustainable supply of essential metals.

Our environmental commitments also include preserving biodiversity

Renault Group takes action to protect biodiversity at its sites by carrying out assessments, taking protective measures and disseminating best practice, and, outside its operations, by taking part in collective programmes to protect and restore environments.

Renault Group's commitments have been recognised by the act4nature initiative, which brings together companies, environmental NGOs and scientific bodies. By avoiding, reducing and offsetting the impact of its activities on nature and ecosystems, Renault Group is aiming for a positive biodiversity footprint. Learn more (in French only)
