The RCIPS prioritizes youth outreach in its community policing, recruitment and public relations programmes, because it is only through meaningful engagement with youth, especially those potentially at risk of becoming involved in crime, that any reduction in crime can be sustainable.  In much of its youth outreach, especially recruitment, the RCIPS partners with colleagues in other law enforcement agencies.  Two of its current initiatives are below.

Youth ACT is a Cayman charity dedicated to the prevention of crime through education and outreach to at-risk youth in the Cayman Islands. Its main activity is the organization of Youth Crime Prevention days at local high schools four times a year, during which police and prison officers, ex-convicts, and local community experts make presentations to youth about the perils of criminal activity, the high cost of a life of crime, and how to find support to make good choices. Police regularly participate in the Crime Prevention Days as part of our ongoing efforts to cultivate stronger ties with youth and prevent gang activity. Anyone interested in getting involved with this activity or other youth outreach work with Youth ACT should contact bonnieanglin@hotmail.com or michaelmyles1117@gmail.com. “Youth ACT Cayman” can also be found on YouTube and Facebook.

The RCIPS - Black Pearl Skate Park Youth Outreach Initiative began in 2016 with the simple idea that simply creating the opportunity for young children to interact and play with police officers in a fun and relaxed setting would enable them to have a more positive relationship with law enforcement than what they may have already been exposed to. On at least a monthly basis, Community Police officers escort children on a bus from certain areas around the island to the Skate Park where they play foosball, basketball or simply skate with the children. The Skate Park arranges for free entrance and snacks for the children who participate. The program has been very well-received, and the CPD looks toward working with the Skate Park to schedule more outings in 2018. Anyone interested in more information about this program should contact Christopher.Donaldson@rcips.ky.
