I've been illustrating since 1996 and my original influences were David Hughes, Ralf Steadman, David Cutter and Edward Hopper. John Holcroft is a well-known British illustrator who has worked for BBC, Reader's Digest, The Guardian and the Financial Times, among others. However, what makes him famous are not his employers, but the brilliant satire reflected in his illustrations and the retro style he uses to create them.

It's no secret that our society has its flaws - dependence on technology, taxes, obesity, devaluation of workers - to name a few. Some people may not even want to think about any of these problems in society but illustrator John Holcroft, on the other hand, he looks them straight in the eye and depicts them in a satirical way.

This dark drawing was inspired by depression and the effect it has on people, its a subject that's very close to my heart and i feel very passionate about it. So I created this image almost to try and explain depression to someone who's never experienced it or can not understand the effects it has on people.
