nonlinear frequency compression

A hearing aid enhancement technique that lowers the high frequencies that hearing-impaired users have difficulty recognizing. For example, Phonak's SoundRecover algorithm lowers all frequencies above a cut-off by an ever increasing amount. If the cut-off were 2 kHz, signals in the 2-4 kHz range are reduced to 2-2.8 kHz.
