(1) One of the first successful chatbots. In 1964, Eliza was created by Joseph Weizenbaum (1923-2008) at MIT. A version of Eliza known as "Doctor" shocked people on campus for how well it responded to human input. See chatbot.

(2) (eLiza) Formally Project eLiza, eLiza was an umbrella term from IBM for a variety of self-management features that performed numerous capabilities without human intervention. eLiza is short for "eLizard," which is a highly adaptable animal.
