NN/g has an extensive legacy of thought leadership in design. The company was established in 1998 by two UX pioneers, Dr. Jakob Nielsen and Dr. Don Norman. Among their many contributions, Jakob developed the Ten Usability Heuristics and led the discount usability movement, while Don invented the term “user experience” and authored The Design of Everyday Things.
In the early 2000s, Don and Jakob were joined by Kara Pernice, Hoa Loranger, and Raluca Budiu. Their work significantly impacted modern understanding of user behavior, particularly influencing content and mobile design.
After leading the company for 25 years, Jakob retired from NN/g in April 2023. Don, who retired from NN/g in 2018, remains on the Board of Directors. Kara Pernice guides the company as President and CEO, supported by vice presidents Sarah Gibbons, Kate Moran, and Hoa Loranger.
