The biggest crime I've seen is Catalytic Converters being stolen (It's happened 7 or 8 times on my street that I know of, in the past 3-5 years). Otherwise it's a pretty safe area. I am not uncomfortable walking around at night. It's not really a party town, but there is a community center with events (including dancing and theatre!) and a few parks. Interestingly, Emergency services (firefighters, paramedics, police) cross-train here, and you may see the same person working in any of these three positions within the same time frame. I also have not had any bad interactions with police here, which may be related. There are several schools, and a great library!
I've been in Sunnyvale for ten years. It feels personal in three midst of Silicon valley bustle. Very easy to stay fit and healthy. I do wish there were more restaurants and things to do at night, but it's adjacent to many of these things.
I would love to see more life, more shops, restaurants, activities, coffee shops, parks, and more accessibility to a healthy lifestyle, like lower price point food options, free or low cost exercise classes, etc.
