Current Resident: I grew up in Overland Park. Great community of very nice and friendly citizens. Great schools. Terrific shopping. Good job opportunities. 20-30 minutes' drive to literally ANYTHING you'd be interested in going to. I moved away in my late 20's to the Pacific Northwest--not my cup of tea, and quite frankly, culture shock. After 3 years I couldn't WAIT to get out (not used to unfriendly people) and moved back to the Midwest, settling in suburban St. Louis-Chesterfield. Felt so good to be around friendly Midwest residents again, and I stayed for 13 years before I went through a life-changing event and then was presented with an opportunity to "Go Home" which I took. I moved back to Overland Park after about 17 years. A lot had changed. Overland Park had grown considerably, but the people were still as friendly as ever, the community was still beautifully maintained, still safe, and OP continues to draw more new residents every year. Current Resident: Carlsbad is a very safe, family friendly city with lots of things to do in North County San Diego. I grew up in here and currently live here raising my kids. When choosing a neighborhood we were extremely selective, and we chose Bressi Ranch. It is such a gem! The houses are so cute and quaint, some with wrap around front porches, some with large lawns and picket fences, some have larger back yards. We can walk to restaurants and coffee shops. People drive around in golf carts. I love it here. The schools are excellent too. Nearby Resident: Richardson has a quiet suburban feel while being surrounded by the city. It's within driving distance of major shopping including grocery, pharmacy, and clothing retail. There are really diverse restaurants and eateries on nearly every corner such as Ethiopian ,Indian, Italian, and Mediterranean, but there is also your usual places like Whataburger and Chic-Fil-A. The area is very safe, children ride their bikes outside, there's a beautiful tree lined walking trail that spans several city blocks, and it's vary rare that you encounter panhandlers. The thing I like most about Richardson, is the quiet. I've lived there five years now and I have yet to encounter anyone playing loud music, throwing wild parties, or causing any amount of raucous. There is an active police presence on the roads and you instantly feel a sense of security. It has a delightful mixture of many different cultures in one area especially through the medium of small businesses. There are few other places in Nevada you can find such a good blend of cultures. Current Resident: I live in the heart of the city, right off of Golden Gate Park and Haight Street. I am thrown into a world-wind of diversity and tourism. I am constantly meeting new people and give them reviews of my experiences living in a major city. Being able to bus 10 minutes to get the best Pho in the city, then commuting another 30 minutes to reach the Golden Gate Bridge and having a picnic date at Crissy Fields. I have met a wide variety of different kinds of people who have drastically different lives. In the Marina, I am able to meet those who work in tech and big companies, then I can go to Inner Richmond and meet small business owners who own their business with their family. There is new projects being built everyday to help bridge the gap within the community. The ongoing protests that occur blocks away from me, will always motivation me to fight for what I believe in and how the possibilities are endless. There's shopping, there's decent places to eat in Irvine itself, and a bunch of great places all across OC within driving distance. Google Fiber is coming in the next few years (maybe not soon enough for your 2-year project) and the local cable provider (Cox Communications) is installing gigabit internet fiber across the city soon, too. The reasons not to live here are that it's boring, it's practically owned by the Irvine Corporation which raises rents on good restaurants and stores and forces them out, the home prices are very high, the homeowner's associations are the only legal gangs in the city (hyperbole, but never underestimate the spite-filled overly righteous board member senior citizens with too much time on their hands, walking around and tallying up infractions while everyone else is at work/school).... Current Resident: I have lived in Lakeland my entire life. Over the years, Lakeland has become far more densely populated. This has led to a major increase in traffic, real estate prices, and has made the general state of living much more difficult to handle. It takes far more time to get around town than it used to. To travel from one side of town to the other, it can take up to 45 minutes, with extreme traffic both ways no matter which road you take. Additionally, real estate prices have skyrocketed recently. During the COVID pandemic, Governor DeSantis kept the state of Florida mostly open. This led to a large influx of people from other states moving to the state, especially to Lakeland. The need for housing led to massive amounts of inflation. Now prices are far greater than what they should be, and no one is leaving the city.
