Current Resident: I love it here! Pasadena has a bit of everything and is close to so much. One of the reasons I moved here is because LA is hectic and busy, while Pasadena feels laid back and pleasant. The natural beauty is hard to beat: the San Gabriel mountains in the backdrop and trees throughout the city. The food scene is diverse and new restaurants and cafes are constantly popping up. There are great events and shows (Playhouse Theater, Ice House Comedy, Rose Parade), and lots of shopping. The city has a rich history with beautiful architecture which I love. Most of all, there is a strong community feel. It's also close to the east side and downtown, which opens up so much. Housing is expensive, but that's expected in the area. Current Resident: Living in Saint Paul in the area of Cathedral Hill is probably the best option around the Twin cities. Very safe and convenient to access most stores without a car. There is a bus transit that isn’t the best but it works if needed to go further away. The downside the nightlife. As it is more community older people oriented. It isn’t as vibrant as Minneapolis. The food scene is better in Minneapolis as well or Edina. I do love the surrounding greenery. And the little cafe and old town feel. Very charming and elegant. But not the most eclectic or diverse crowd in the neighborhood. It is very good for family more than single people. Or couples for that matters. The downtown Saint Paul isn’t the safest. Current Resident: I have had a fairly good experience here at Tempe. People here are very welcoming and I feel at home over here. Public transportation is accessible and cheap which makes it easy for me to commute. I do feel unsafe sometimes, but I find that people here are looking out for each other. I wish there was more of a nightlife and if places were open longer in the night. I feel like make good restaurants and shops close very early which makes it inconvenient to do fun things in the evening. Tempe otherwise has a fairly young population and the ASU Tempe campus has several job opportunities and fun activities. Mill avenue has several great places to grab a bite and the free streetcar is very reliable and is a great way of getting around. Tempe is very LGBTQ+ friendly which makes everyone feel safe. I do wish there was something done about the homeless population in Tempe as it gets very hot over the summer and it can be very dangerous for people to spend so much time in the hot sun.... Good job opportunities. 20-30 minutes' drive to literally ANYTHING you'd be interested in going to. I moved away in my late 20's to the Pacific Northwest--not my cup of tea, and quite frankly, culture shock. After 3 years I couldn't WAIT to get out (not used to unfriendly people) and moved back to the Midwest, settling in suburban St. Louis-Chesterfield. Felt so good to be around friendly Midwest residents again, and I stayed for 13 years before I went through a life-changing event and then was presented with an opportunity to "Go Home" which I took. I moved back to Overland Park after about 17 years. A lot had changed. Overland Park had grown considerably, but the people were still as friendly as ever, the community was still beautifully maintained, still safe, and OP continues to draw more new residents every year. The school I go to is also good I get free lunch and breakfast, free bus rides and also the library is not far from my home, so I go there if I need something.
