I grew up in Queens and can't imagine myself anywhere else! Overall its a great place to raise a family and depending on where you live; commuting to the other boroughs has never been a hassle. Although it may be lacking in some areas such as night life, I believe the trade off for that is quiter/ calmer neighborhoods. Most places aren't too busy or commercialized which makes it easier to get to know your neighbors if you live in neighborhood for long enough. I've seen a lot of mom and pop businesses survive because of the love and loyalty they receive and also pour back into their communities. Also, in my biased opinion Queens has the best food in all of New York City. Especially Asian cuisine; ranging from Chinese to Indian to Uzbek food.
I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. These are the first and second highest populated counties in New York City. I have either resided or worked in almost every neighborhood in Queens. I am in awe of Queen's diversity. Queens is truly the melting pot of the world. Queens is the only place you can visit a random neighborhood and experience a plethora of nationalities, their cultures and food. It is easy to get engulfed in a culture immerse yourself in everything about them. Queens has the best public education school system and has created some of our most intelligent minds.
I have been here one year and a couple months. There are many groceries stores around my house and the prices of products are relatively cheaper than in Manhattan’s.
I am a woman but I can go back home alone late at night. Though NYC is very diverse city overall but Queens is very multicultural and diverse especially about food culture. I enjoy a variety of food which I’ve never tried in my home country. I really enjoy it. There is subway so I dont Need a car to go somewhere. The favorite thing is you can go to Mets stadium and Corona park without changing subway line and very easy access. If someone who love sports such as baseball or tennis, this place would be great!
The thing I wish to be changed here is subway condition. There is 7 line. The 7 line often becomes under construction especially weekends. I have missed or been late for my appointment because of subway’s irregular schedule or some stations were not available. This is the only thing I would like to see the change.
