Newton is a great place to live! Most people lean politically left, but the community has a lot of political and racial/ethnic diversity. It is pretty suburban, but it is easy to get to Boston if you like. There are many restaurants to choose from, and the community is loving and tight-knit. The public school system is great, and so are the recreational parks and land spaces. One change I'd like to see would be the rising housing costs.
Very closed minded people living here. "Trust Fund Families" with no perception on reality and what true financial independence and responsibility looks like. Unless you want to live in a "bubble" with microaggressions towards every outsider or person with any differences in looks or opinions, stay clear of this city!
Every little village neighborhood in the city has some shops and restaurants but everything closes very early and not a great variety for the size city that it is. Roads suck, side walks are a mess I used to live here and wouldn't ever consider living here again. There are some nice places to visit and go for walks in the woods just DO NOT go after dark as all the homeless people and druggies go there. In my former neighborhood on the north side there was a lot of drugs, drunks and robberies. I think this city only gets it's good reputation from the south side of the city that has all the multi million dollar houses. Most of the city is a dump nothing special but definitely over priced and you'd be better off in Weston, Wellesley or Needham since those towns have better schools and are much safer and clean.
