Jeremy Clarkson's future on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has been confirmed, according to reports.

The Clarkson's Farm star's future on the ITV show has been hanging in the balance since 2022 following the presenter's vile column about Meghan Markle in which he wrote about the Duchess of Sussex being "paraded naked through the streets".

After his cruel comments, ITV director of TV Kevin Lygo distanced himself from the dad-of-three, 64, and described Jeremy's diatribe as "awful", which cast doubt on whether the presenter would continue to host Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

However, it's now been reported the Grand Tour star and ITV have been given the go-ahead to order a new run of the quiz show for 2025.

Some 18 months on from the scandal, the broadcaster is believed to have been given the green light for a new series, which will comprise a mix of regular episodes and celebrity specials, reports GB News.

According to Broadcast, the most recent series averaged an impressive 3.5million viewers, while the last two series have been streamed 4.9million times on ITVX to date.

The news comes after Jeremy was reportedly given a "lifeline" by ITV bosses after his column became Ipso's - the Independent Press Standards Organisation's - most-complained about article after its publication received more than 25,100 complaints.

The future of the show has been up in the air since Jeremy mused that he dreamt of the day that mum-of-two, Meghan, was "made to parade through the streets of every town" whilst the crowds chanted "shame".

The presenter issued an apology for the language he used, describing his words as "disgraceful", adding he was "profoundly sorry". However, an insider told the Mirror ITV wasn't sure how to proceed with the opinionated host, saying: "ITV have been playing a waiting game to see how things look and how people have been reacting to new episodes going out this year of Millionaire with Clarkson."

A record number of people complained about the column, which was declared sexist, "humiliating and degrading towards the duchess", Ipso chairman Lord Faulks said. Prince Harry and Meghan also accused Jeremy of spreading "hate rhetoric".

They added that the article, published by the Sun in December 2022, was also spreading "dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny".

Responding to the Ipso ruling the Sun said it "accepts that with free expression comes responsibility". The outlet and Jeremy apologised for the column and removed the article from its website. However, while it has said the comments fell "short of its high editorial standards and should not have been published" the newspaper did not accept it had breached the editor's code, saying concerns raised were a "matter of taste and judgement".

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.
