One of Friends' biggest stars looked unrecognisable from her well-known character as she made a return to TV.

Actress Jane Sibbett appeared on Australia's The Morning Show where TV fans had to do a double take.

Jane, 61, began her successful acting career in the '80s with a role on the NBC soap opera Santa Barbara. Over thirty years after she became a household name thanks to Friends, the actress has now been nominated for Best Newcomer at the Soap Opera Digest Awards after having an incredibly successful television career.

She gained fame in 1991 as Heddy Newman on the Fox sitcom Herman's Head, which developed a cult following, before securing a role on Friends. The American TV star portrayed Ross Geller's ex-wife Carol Willick in several episodes of Friends from 1994 to 2001. Jane's character was famously a lesbian after marrying Ross, and began a relationship with a character called Susan. At the time, the subject was quite taboo.

On Monday, Jane appeared on The Morning Show to reminisce about her time on the hugely popular seven-season series. In a surprising revelation, she shared that she almost didn't land the role of Carol because the casting team initially wanted her for the lead role of Rachel Green.

Despite progressing to the testing phase for the part of Rachel, Jane was turned down due to her pregnancy with her first child, Kai Fink. Co-host Kylie Gillies asked: "Is it true you were picked to play the part of Rachel Green, but because you were pregnant it ultimately went to Jennifer Aniston?"

To which Jane revealed: "It's actually that I had left the room from auditioning for Rachel and I got the phone call from my manager saying, "They love you. They want you. So, I said, "Did you tell them that I was pregnant?" And he said, "No, just go onto the test, it will be fine."

"That's how it went. So once they did tell them I was pregnant, they said, "Oh, that's not going to work out." Fortunately for Jane, she landed the role of Carol shortly after delivering her son Kai, who also appeared on the show as Ross' baby son Ben, sharing the screen with his mum.
