The Man Without Fear is no more. At least not on Netflix.
The acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe series Daredevil has been cancelled and will not be returning for more episodes, meaning the recent critically acclaimed third season will be its last.
The news comes after Netflix cancelled two of its other Marvel series, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, each after two seasons.
Jessica Jones and The Punisher are the only Marvel series to remain on the streaming service, with the former due to return for a third season and the latter for a second.
However, the future of each of those series is now even more precarious.
"Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix," said Netflix in a statment.
"We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.
"We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years."
Karen Page actress Deborah Ann Woll took to Twitter to express her sadness over the cancellation.
The prospect of a return for the character on Disney's upcoming rival streaming service, Disney+, is perhaps the best fans can hope for.
"We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future," said Marvel, now owned by Disney.
Competition amongst the streaming services may have contributed towards the cancellation.
Thankfully for fans, the majority of storylines in the final season were wrapped up, aside from a final hint of more to come from villain Bullseye (Wilson Bethel).
