Jet2 has urged passengers to make sure they arrive early enough for their flight at the airport, especially during the busier travel seasons.

The airline has issued a warning for holidaymakers ahead of the peak travel season, including the school summer holidays. Brits who have flights booked have been told to aim to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure time.

After all, anyone who's travelled in an airport during busy seasons will know that you can end up facing long queues, especially when there are people who fall foul of the airport security rules and end up causing delays for others behind them. Then of course even just dropping your bags off can take longer if you don't follow airlines' hand luggage rules - and these do vary so check before you head to the airport.

A warning on the Jet2 website reads: "Please check this section of the website at least 12 hours before your flight for the latest flight information. Customers are advised to arrive at their departure airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time.

"In the event of any flight delays further information can be found by using the above search panel by entering your flight number or route. As a reminder check in desks will close 40 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

"Rest assured, in the event of flight disruption our dedicated Operations teams are always working hard behind the scenes at our UK-based HQ to get you on your way as soon as possible."

Make sure you also follow Jet2's hand luggage rules to make life a little smoother when you travel. Under the current rules you can bring one piece of hand luggage on board for free, as long as it doesn't weigh more than 10kg and isn't bigger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles. If your hand luggage is heavier or larger, it will need to be checked into the aircraft hold, and you might have to pay an extra charge.

You can also bring a small, personal item on board (like a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase), as long as it fits under the seat in front of you. But remember, you can't drink any alcohol bought at the airport (or before) during the flight.

A Jet2 spokesperson previously told the Mirror: "All hand luggage is carried in the cabin at our discretion, and we reserve the right to check it into the aircraft hold for operational or capacity reasons. If this happens, make sure you take all valuable items (including travel documents, money, medication, keys, spare lithium batteries, and any electronic items containing lithium batteries) and carry these with you in the cabin."
