A man's pet parrot has foiled his secret affair by spilling the beans to his girlfriend.

Cheating is never a good idea, but you should definitely think twice about it if you've got a pet that's known for blurting out secrets. One woman has been left heartbroken after she visited her boyfriend's house and heard his pet parrot, Percy, "shrieking about loving another woman". She explained that her partner's pet kept mentioning the name Jess, which is not her name, which made her suspect her boyfriend was bringing another woman to his house.

What's more, the 25-year-old woman noticed her partner, 26, began "nervously checking his phone" after the parrot's outburst, and became "angry" with her when she asked him who Jess was.

In a post on Reddit, she said: "I've found myself entangled in the most peculiar and perplexing situation. Picture this: during a family gathering at my boyfriend's parents' place, their parrot, Percy, inadvertently spills the beans about a delicate matter - it seems Percy has learned about an alleged affair involving my boyfriend.

"Throughout the night, Percy kept shrieking about loving another woman named Jess and that's NOT my name. I asked my boyfriend what the bird was talking about, and he laughed it off, calling it a crazy and funny bird. However, as the night went on, I noticed my boyfriend nervously checking his phone and always leaving it face down (which he never does. In fact, he used to let me use it occasionally but not now).

"Eventually, I cracked and asked head-on 'Who's Jess?' and he got angry with me, saying I was letting a bird make me insecure. I doubled down, mentioning how he's been acting avoidant all night, but he just got angrier. His parents tried to intervene and calm us both down, but he got angry with them too! I left alone and went home without him and haven't spoken to him since last night."

Commenters on the post were keen to offer alternative answers for the parrot's outburst, as many stated that parrots learn phrases that are repeated to them, so it would have had to hear about Jess a lot to say her name. Some suggested Jess could be an ex-girlfriend, but others said that wouldn't explain why her boyfriend was acting so suspiciously.

One said: "If it was your boyfriend's parents' house, it may have been an ex," but another pointed out: "If it were an ex, it could be laughed off or explained. Weird that nothing was explained."

Someone else offered another theory when they wrote: "At first I was going to say that maybe the bird was repeating dialogue from a TV show, but your boyfriend sure was acting suspicious. You might have to start doing some detective work."
