A survivor of the Alton Towers Smiler ride crash has returned to the resort on a girls weekend.

Leah Washington was one of five people who were seriously injured when the rollercoaster crashed in June 2015.

She was taken to hospital after the coaster crashed into a test car, crushing her leg amongst the twisted metal of the ride, and her leg had to be amputated.

Today the brave young woman shared a public Instagram post showing she was back at the resort.

Appearing to be having fun, she was smiling with a group of girls wearing spa robes, and tagged the location as 'Alton Towers Enchanted Village'.

The mates were also pictured relaxing in a jaccuzi with what looked like champagne. The caption read: "Girls weekend."

Another shot showed the friends walking into a log cabin.

The Enchanted Village is a collection of cottages set in Alton Towers theme park. The theme park itself is closed until next month.

It is understood this is the sixth time Leah has visited the village since the crash.

Leah, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, has gathered more than 18,000 followers since the crash and has previously spoken out about the accident.

She previously described the crash as well as the moment she woke up to find out her leg had been amputated.

"I started yelling, “No! No! No!” and then… there was nothing," Leah told Cosmopolitan.

"Only blackness. The next thing I remember was the screaming. And the blood. There was so much of it. The metal of the safety bars had folded into our bodies."

She added: "The doctor came over in a white coat. He had kind, sad eyes and spoke to me slowly.

'I’m so sorry. I had to amputate your left leg. It was seriously injured. It was the only way I could save you.'"

Leah and Joe were on their first proper date when they decided to ride the theme park's newest attraction - the Smiler.

Joe had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation after the ride mangled his own legs.

The pair had to learn to walk again but have made an incredible recovery, earning them a legion of fans.
