Ensuring that every child is able to reach their full potential is a noble, ambitious goal for Keir Starmer that would be a fitting memorial to Stephen Lawrence.

The Labour leader and Stephen’s mother Doreen, Baroness Lawrence, honouring the legacy of a talented young man callously killed by racists would transform the prospects of kids from working-class and deprived families.

Questions remain about how Labour would guarantee opportunities for all, opening doors that are currently shut and smashing a glass ceiling holding back talented children born with no privileges.

But the commitment of Baroness Lawrence and power a Prime Minister Starmer would possess could be a formidable combination that might prove unstoppable if words were backed by deeds in Government.

Dental disaster

Mouth cancer deaths rising as NHS dentistry plunges further into chaos is either a disturbing coincidence or a
terrifying fatal link.

Data showing the oral version of the disease killing more than 3,000 people a year compared with around 2,000 a decade ago is a sharp jump that cannot be ignored.

Our highlighting of the case of a man whose life was saved by his dentist spotting something wrong begs the question about what happens, or doesn’t happen, to those who can’t get an appointment.

The Daily Mirror’s Dentists for All campaign is not only about our teeth, however important they are. This is about healthcare for all and saving lives. Nothing is more vital.

The extra mile

With a new women’s world record set and two British men finishing in the top four, that was a brilliant London Marathon.

As ever the 50,000 runners and wheelchair racers are what made this a showpiece event in which the elite, disabled athletes and those in fancy dress all give everything and finish completely knackered together.
