Prince William was as overjoyed at England’s victory over Slovakia on Sunday after a tense match as the rest of the country, as he posted on social media.

Gareth Southgate ’s Three Lions left it until the very last minute of added on time after 90 minutes to grab an incredible equaliser, with Jude Bellingham coming to the rescue. The turnaround was complete a minute into added time as Harry Kane scored his second of the tournament to book England’s place in the quarter finals.

As most of the country celebrated the shock result, Prince William joined in the joy as he reposted on X. The heir to the throne, who is also president of the Football Association, wrote: “Emotional rollercoaster! Let's go @England ! Quarter finals here we come!.”

The post was signed W, the Royal’s way of showing who penned the post on the account he shares with his wife, Princess Kate.

William also retweeted a heartwarming snap from the official England X social account showing Jude Bellingham planting a kiss on Harry Kane's forehead. Several fans replied to Prince William's tweet, with one supporter saying: "My heart can't take another like that." Another said: “WHAT A GAME!!! Thanks to Prince William.”

Millions more watching at home breathed a huge sigh of relief . Supporters got behind the team for the whole game but one, Josh Smith, said: “I thought we were very lucky.” Many agreed the performance was not world-beating, yet most were just happy to be in the next round.

Southgate had walked on to the pitch to applaud fans for their passion before kick-off but was met with boos. However, there was a carnival atmosphere as the crowd headed back into the city on trams. But Josh, 20, from Manchester, was less than impressed. He added: “I don’t think we deserved it. We were diabolical in the first half. But then Jude Bellingham turned up at the death.
