McVitie’s has launched a new digestive biscuit flavour - and fans of a certain nostalgic 80s chocolate bar will love it.

The confectionery giant has announced new Gold Digestives, which brings together the classic digestive biscuit and the Gold bar, with its sweet golden caramel flavour. The new collaboration will be available to buy in Sainsbury’s from July 7 before being rolled out to other supermarkets. The recommended retail price (RPP) is £1.89 for a pack of 15 biscuits - but do remember, shops are free to set their own prices.

McVitie’s first teased the news on social media, with a blurry image and an Instagram and Facebook post that reads: "Attention, biscuit lovers. We have a surprise coming soon…can you guess what it is?" One person replied: "Gotta be blonde chocolate right?!" Another said: "Digestive gold bar yummy."

McVitie’s is gearing up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the milk chocolate digestive. Aslı Özen Turhan, Chief Marketing Officer at pladis UK&I said: “We’re always listening out for what new snacks our loyal fanbase are requesting, and this is one request we couldn’t resist fulfilling.

“Gold Digestives are certainly one of our most eagerly awaited launches of the year, one which brings together two of our most popular brands to create a truly unique addition to the McVitie’s family. We can’t wait to hear what our biscuit fans far and wide think of this winning combination.”

It comes after McVitie's recently launched new Cocoa Rich Tea biscuits in Tesco for £1.80 for a pack, or £1.25 with a Clubcard. The sweet biscuits do not contain a layer of chocolate like the Chocolate Digestives do, and instead have a subtle chocolatey taste throughout thanks to the use of cocoa. Before this, McVitie’s launched a new limited-edition Jaffa Cakes Cola Bottle flavour.
