One Brit decided to spend a night in Manchester's worst-rated hotel, Sachas, and found it "dated" – but not as terrible as the reviews suggested.

Zac Jones, 26, booked a £35 room at the two-star Tripadvisor rated hotel on June 5, 2024, after reading reviews labelling it as "disgusting" and advising people not to stay there.

Despite the slew of poor reviews, Zak was determined to check out the hotel for himself and see if it really lived up to its notorious reputation. Zac, a delivery driver from Liverpool, said: "My first impression was pretty positive. The staff were friendly, I had my ID checked by security to make sure I had a booking there."

While he admitted "the reception was dated but not terrible, I think the hotel was over-hated," he warned it wasn't for those who are fussy about their accommodation. One review he read before his stay warned: "Do not waste your money here, the rooms are disgustingly hot and nothing even works."

"There were cigarette burns in the seat and an old smell but it wasn't as bad as people said," Zac added. "This was very easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, the staff are very friendly but that doesn't make up for the terrible room."

Zac remarked: "As I went up to my room the keycard wasn't working." He continued, detailing the state of his accommodation: "When I got into the room it was dirty and rough around the edges."

Describing the less-than-perfect conditions, he said: "It was imperfect, there were stains on the wall, paint peeling off the ceiling."

In a surprising twist, he admitted: "It wasn't as bad as I expected." Concluding his experience, Zac said: "I think the hotel was over hated, the staff were lovely and it wasn't so bad."

The Sachas Hotel has an average rating of two stars on TripAdvisor from nearly 3,000 reviews. A staggering 1,594 reveiws rated the hotel as 'terrible'.

One customer branded the hotel a "catfish", adding that: "The inside [of the room] reminded me [of] TV show Prisoner cell block H; Shabby not chic. Breakfast looked embarrassed to be there."

The same customer continued: "I passed by Strangeways prison shortly after: it looked like an upgrade in comparison."

Despite the bad reviews, the hotel remains a bit of a bargain, costing around £30 per night. It is also not the worst rated hotel in Manchester on TripAdvisor — it misses on that by one place, coming 125th out of 126 hotels.
