The rising cost of living has been a pressing concern for many over the past year. In an effort to keep bills low, it's no surprise that Brits are going to great lengths to prevent food wastage.

Luckily, there are numerous ways to alter your routine and utilise all the food from your weekly shop to minimise waste. But have you ever considered what to do with leftover alcohol?

Ever find yourself unable to finish a bottle of wine? NHS UK advises not to consume more than 14 units of alcohol, equivalent to about six medium (175ml) glasses of wine per week, spread over three days, reports the Express.

Tesco, the supermarket behemoth, has issued a warning to its wine-buying customers. If you're someone who enjoys a glass of vino every now and then, you might want to take note.

You can decant the remaining wine into ice cube trays or a freezer bag if there's a larger quantity left. Just be sure not to freeze the leftover wine in the bottle. You can then add a cube to recipes as needed.

Tesco recommends enhancing your gravy with frozen wine, adding red to a Bolognese for depth of flavour, or using white in risottos. The supermarket also suggests freezing items like bananas and avocados.

Courtney Pallett, Tesco campaigns manager, stated: "Your freezer is your friend when it comes to reducing food waste and avoiding throwing food away.

"Most of the foods that often end up in the bin such as bananas and avocados can be saved by freezing them to use later."
