Spoilers for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The critically-acclaimed and box office hit Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sees director Quentin Tarantino return to the Hollywood of yesteryear - 1969 to be exact.

Focusing on struggling television star Rick Dalton ( Leonardo DiCaprio ) and his trusted stuntman and friend Cliff Booth ( Brad Pitt ) - who has a murky past - the film also includes real-life figures such as Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie ) and infamous cult leader Charles Manson (Damon Herriman).

Manson was handled in a very particular way in the final cut , but now Tarantino has revealed that Booth and Manson were to have had a confrontation in a cut scene, which Empire reveals included a moment where "the cult leader locks eyes with Cliff Booth, who's stood on Rick's roof, yells 'F**k you, Jack!' and does a few karate moves'.

Speaking to Empire , Tarantino revealed: "I dropped it out. I wonder to this day if I did the right thing. Columbia really wanted me to keep it in. Part of the thing guiding this movie was just knowing where the drama was, and keeping the currentness of the drama in line with the audience's reaction."

The director added: "It just seemed I should be going back to Rick for the scene with the little girl. When I stayed there just a little bit longer to have Cliff and Charlie share their moment, it just seemed like I was five minutes behind the drama from that point on. It didn't feel right."

Tarantino also revealed why he approached Sharon Tate's "special" role in a very specific way.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is in UK cinemas now.
