Sprightly Sir Ian McKellen does a little dance with Sir Anthony Hopkins as his fellow film star hailed the actor's "unbreakable spirit".

The friends, who worked together on The Dresser almost ten years ago, pulled out all the moves in a new clip as Sir Ian continues his recovery. It is not known if they were showing off their skills after the stage accident or if it was recorded some time before, but it certainly gave fans a lift.

He captioned the cheery upload: "Today I celebrate my dear friend, Ian and his unbreakable spirit… I love this man.... We both have our Gucci on... Thank you, Salma @ianmckellen @salmahayek @gucci." His followers clearly loved it and one said: "Now this is iconic!!! Glad to see you both have a great time."

The pair have been pals for a few years but Sir Ian knows it should have been for a lot longer. "We should be old friends," the former Harry Potter star said. "We were in a company together under Laurence Olivier at the Old Vic when he ran the National Theatre, but we didn't actually act together.

"And since Tony went to live in the States, there haven't been many possibilities when our paths could have crossed, we've never done a film together. So this was just bliss," he said after the adaptation of Sir Ronald's play, which took place backstage at a theatre during the Blitz.

The star is thankfully on the mend and a theatre-goer has recounted the shocking moment when legendary actor "flew head first" into her after a tumble from a West End stage on Monday. The veteran actor, 85, was playing John Falstaff in a production of Player Kings at the Noel Coward Theatre when he lost his balance during a fight scene and fell off the stage.

Johanna, a front-row audience member, shared her experience with the BBC. The 30 year old from Leatherhead, Surrey, quipped to the BBC: "Getting crushed by Gandalf the Grey, that's something you don't expect." She explained that the actor seemed to "trip on this bit of prop" on the stage, before falling onto her, with his head striking her knee "quite hard". Johanna recalled: "As he tripped on that he built up momentum and flew head first into me in the audience."

She described a frantic scene as Sir Ian called for help and staff rushed to his aid. However, Johanna claimed that the theatre staff "seemed unsure" about health and safety procedures and did not direct any paramedics to check on her. Following the incident, she was taken to hospital with soft tissue injuries. On Thursday, it was announced that Sir Ian would be taking a break from performing in London to undergo physiotherapy and recover.

The audience was swiftly evacuated from the theatre and informed that the rest of the evening's performance would be cancelled. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter after the incident to share their concern for the legendary actor one fan described it as a "really bad fall".
