Lidl has hilariously unveiled a Liam Gallagher blue plaque at one of its Manchester stores after the star "almost played" there.

The former Oasis frontman is set to perform in his hometown's brand new Co-op Live arena this weekend, but the show had previously been in doubt following a number of problems at the venue. Stars including Olivia Rodrigo and Peter Kay were forced to cancel their gigs there due to a problem with the air conditioning system, while Take That pulled out due to the "technical issues" last month.

Asked by a fan at the time what he would do if his shows were affected, 51-year old Liam responded: "Gig in Lidl." The German firm duly obliged, meanwhile, joking in a reference to an Oasis hit: "We’re gonna roll with it."

Despite the Co-op Live problems seemingly being resolved, Lidl has chosen to mark the occasion by honouring Liam at its branch in nearby Newton Heath. Shoppers and fans of the star can grab a selfie with the new blue plaque, which is emblazoned with: "LIAM GALLAGHER, LEGEND 'ALMOST PLAYED HERE' JUNE 2024."

Local business Manchester Taxi Tours has even added a stop at the iconic location on its music tours of the city, giving tourists a chance to take a look at the wonder-wall. Lidl, meanwhile, shared a snap of the plaque on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday morning along with the Oasis reference: "Some Might Say we're gutted, but never say never. Here's to the @liamgallagher Lidl concert that *almost* happened."

This weekend, Liam will be performing the hits of Oasis debut album Definitely Maybe to mark the 30th anniversary of its release. He'll be joined by the band's original rhythm guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, but the chances of an appearance from big brother Noel remain minute.

Much to fans' dismay, the siblings have been at loggerheads since 2009 after a huge bust-up in Paris saw Noel announce he "simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer". Rumours of a reunion have intensified in recent times, however, with Liam openly inviting 57-year old Noel to join him, but any form of reconciliation is yet to occur.
