On TikTok, if you come across an intriguing video that you think deserves a response, you can use the Duet feature to react to it. This article walks you through the steps of how to Duet on TikTok and shows you how to find and watch Duets on the app.

How to Create a Duet on TikTok
The option to create Duets is only available in the TikTok mobile app.
Open the TikTok app on your device and navigate to a video you’d like to create a response for. Press on the Share button on the right.
Check the bottom row in the menu that appears. Swipe your finger to the right to bring up more options. Press on Duet.
The screen will now appear split in half. On the right, you’ll see the original video – the one you’re recording a reaction for. Now, there are a few more options for how you can frame your response.
Tap on the tiny icons underneath the video captions to see the alternatives. For instance, you can have the response appear in full screen while the original video appears in a small window overlayed on the main clip. Or you can have a video of yourself overlayed on top of the original video.
Once you’ve selected your format, you can start shooting your response video. For that, press the red shutter button at the bottom.
Lift your finger off the button when you’ve done recording. Now you can edit your clip by adding Filters, modifying the Speed, or adding a few Retouch(es). If you wish to react to just a certain part in the original video, you can select that segment by using the Timer option.
When you’re done with all of this press the red tick button at the bottom to proceed to review your creation.
On the next screen, you can perform additional edits, such as adding text, stickers, effects, a voice recording, and more. Make sure to explore all the options on the right side of the display.
Finally, press on the Next button.
Go ahead and edit your Duet cover and add more hashtags.
Also don’t forget to review your Duet’s privacy settings. Select Everyone can view this post at the top to decide who can view your Duet. You can switch to Friends or set a default audience as per your preference.
Tap on Privacy settings to opt whether to Allow comments. Also, switch the Allow Duet toggle on if you want others to be able to post responses to your react video.
Press on More options to disclose whether you’re promoting a product or service in your Duet. For AI-generated content, don’t forget to add a badge. If your video should be limited to those aged 18 and up, toggle on the Audience controls option.
Once all this is taken care of, press the Post button at the bottom to send it to the TikTok video feed.

Why Can’t I Duet on TikTok with Someone?
In the case of some videos, you might notice that the Duet option is missing. This means you won’t be able to post a response to their clip. But why is that?
Content creators can modify their privacy settings to disable Duet for their videos. This is something you also can do if, for example, you’ve posted a clip that you don’t want others reacting to.
In the TikTok app press on the Profile icon at the bottom.
You’ll be taken to your profile page where you have to tap on the hamburger menu in the upper right.
Select Settings and privacy in the menu at the bottom.
Tap Privacy.
Swipe down to the Interactions sections and select Duet.
Tap on Allow Duet from.
Select Only you if you don’t want anyone to Duet your videos. Alternatively, select Friends to allow only your friends on TikTok to react to your videos.
Note: if the option to Duet does not show up for viewers even though you’ve have the right privacy options enabled (see above), go to your profile and tap on your video. Then press Privacy settings and toggle on Allow Duet.
You can also selectively choose which videos you don’t want others to react to. You can do this when posting the video.
On the posting screen tap on Privacy settings and make sure the Allow Duet is turned off.

Where to Find and Watch Duets on TikTok?
If you want to find more Duets to watch on TikTok here’s what you can do. There isn’t a place on the app to discover Duets, but it’s possible to search for this type of video.
Open the TikTok app or TikTok in your browser/desktop app.
Tap on the search icon in the upper right corner. Or use the search bar if you’re on desktop. If you know the username of the account, it’s possible to search specifically for Duets created using their videos. To check someone’s username, look on the bottom left when viewing one of their videos and tap on the name displayed there.

This will take you to their profile where you will be able to check their @username.
Knowing this information, go to search and write the following: duet @username. Press Search.
Now you can browse through all the Duets that were made using videos from that particular TikTok account.
Alternatively, you can simply search for duet. Or add a keyword such as duet cat for more targeted results.
If you wish to see who made Duets using your own videos, head on to Settings & privacy -> Duet -> Manage associated videos.
