This open letter to the leaders of the UK political parties during the 2024 General Election calls on them to pledge ambitious action on climate change. The letter outlines five specific actions required in a programme of climate action. These include a strategy for meeting the UK’s Carbon Budgets and net zero targets, action to help the UK adapt and become more resilient to climate impacts, international leadership on climate change and support for mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. The letter is signed by more than 400 members of the UK climate change research community.

The joint letter was organized by Professor Emily Shuckburgh, Director of Cambridge Zero at the University of Cambridge, and Bob Ward, Policy and Communications Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
