  • Our URW Airports team recently marked the start of construction for the transformation of the commercial redevelopment program at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) Terminal 8 in partnership with The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, American Airlines, and Holt Construction. A seasonal artist showcase within the terminal, “A Traveling Dream,” also debuted as a celebration of the depth and vibrancy of the airport’s host community, Jamaica, and greater Queens through local art.     The commercial redevelopment follows the $400 million expansion of Terminal 8. Completed in November 2022, the expansion and modernization of Terminal 8 is part of the Port Authority’s $19 billion redevelopment of JFK, which prioritizes world-class dining and retail alongside inspiring public art in every new or modernized terminal.     Congratulations, team. We can't wait to see this amazing development. #BetterTogether #BeYouatURW #JFKairport

  •   We are pleased to announce the appointment of three new key members to strengthen our leadership team at Westfield Old Orchard.   General Manager Maegen Akers, Assistant General Manager Jeff Rutzen, and Director of Marketing Jenna Velelekos will support the redevelopment of one of the top lifestyle destinations on the North Shore, with new residences, eateries, wellness facilities, and outdoor amenities coming soon.   “We are so fortunate to have these experienced leaders join the Westfield Old Orchard team,” said Leah Heil, Senior Vice President of Shopping Center Management at URW. “Maegen brings a wealth of institutional knowledge of URW, having been a key part of our success for many years. Jeff and Jenna both possess extensive backgrounds in managing mixed-use centers, which will be instrumental as we focus on creating a more dynamic and well-rounded experience for Westfield Old Orchard visitors.” Anticipated to break ground in 2025 and slated to open to residents in early 2027, the first phase of the development at Old Orchard will include the building of approximately 400 luxury apartment homes and street-level retail, along with a park and event space designed as the center’s focal point where local events, concerts, farmer’s markets, and festivals can take place. When complete, Old Orchard will be a North Shore destination unlike anything else in Chicagoland, with a dramatically enhanced offering. Welcome to the team! #BetterTogether #BeYouatURW #WestfieldOldOrchard #newhires #redevelopment

It was an inspirational evening of dinner, music, and celebration as outstanding community members were honored at the 49th Annual Gala. The evening included a keynote address by David Thomas, President of Morehouse College. Los Angeles Urban League helps African Americans and others in underserved communities achieve their highest true social parity, economic self- reliance, power, and civil rights. The League promotes economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health, and quality of life.   Thank you to our team members for representing URW at this amazing event. #BetterTogether #BeYouatURW #UrbanLeague #awards #celebration

  • Transforming the customer experience is at the heart of what we do at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. Recently, we had the opportunity to welcome a ZARA USA flagship store built on technological advances to provide an integrated shopping experience – a monumental moment at Westfield Old Orchard!   The 40,000+ sq. ft. store showcasing the brand’s latest women's, men's, and kids' collections opened inside a newly redeveloped space in the former Lord & Taylor building. This is the first brand to open inside the space which will soon house Arhaus, Puttshack and Pottery Barn.   The store is fully equipped to offer customers a unique shopping experience including a fitting room reservation service, a two-hour pick-up service for online orders, and the ability to search online for in-stock items at the store. Guests can also enjoy a self-checkout area and an online shopping collection point with an automated storage area for up to 650 orders – the first of its kind in a Zara store in the greater Chicago area.   The store’s location presents an impressive two-floor curtain wall façade that allows the entrance of daily light inside the store with a stone portico that frames the entrance to emphasize the access to the store in an elegant and impressive way.   Sustainability is at the forefront of all of our developments, and we are happy to have Zara join us in furthering the sustainable evolution of retail. The Zara flagship at Old Orchard has advanced eco-efficiency systems that reduce environmental impact including efficient heating and cooling systems, energy-saving LED lighting, and the use of more environmentally friendly materials.   Welcome to your new home, Zara. We are excited to open our newest development with you.   #BetterTogether #BeYouatURW #WestfieldOldOrchard #fashion #development

  • Westfield Century City was buzzing during the Westfield Good Festival where it welcomed guests to celebrate sustainability and wellness with interactive workshops, community collaborations, clean beauty, eco-friendly home and good-for-you food. In honor of the festival, the Atrium was transformed into a lush, green oasis complete with live music serenading guests as they engaged with retail partners and community organizations or took a spin on the prize wheel. The weekend was full of activities including the opportunity to experience live honeybees and honey tastings, try candle making with bee’s wax, DIY seed bombs with compost, clay & wildflower seeds with LUSH, and learn about composting and eco-friendly living with The Container Store and innovative EV technology with Verge Motorcycles. Nordstrom and Aesop featured clean beauty and fragrance demos plus guests could enjoy organic and environmental bites and beverages with sweetgreen, La Colombe Coffee Roasters, waterdrop® and True Food Kitchen. Too Good To Go educated guests on fighting food waste and Athens Services created fun, family-friendly games to learn about recycling and waste disposal. • The Westfield Good Festival kicked off in New York City with the iconic Westfield World Trade Center hosting four days of free events and family fun. The festival aims to inspire and support consumers who want to live more sustainably and give back to their communities. The events bring together our retailers, partner brands, and local stakeholders who are making positive steps for the environment and takes place at all U.S. Westfield centers between now and May 18th. The festival started with a Retail Sustainability Showcase featuring WTC stores Damselfy Flowers, Eataly, and Kiehl's Since 1851 showcasing sustainably themed product displays, information, and free samples to take home. The center also hosted an e-waste recycling event where hundreds of items of e-waste - including keyboards, PC screens, chargers, some very retro cell phones, and more - were collected for safe disposal and recycling. The weekend ended with a special Sing for Hope performance in the Oculus to celebrate Earth Day. • It was a full day of GOOD fun at Westfield Culver City’s Good Festival. Guests had the opportunity to learn about the city of Culver City’s services for eco-friendly living, all while enjoying a range of fantastic experiences. Highlights of the day included UNIQLO's RE.UNIQLO clothing donation and recycling program that allowed attendees to donate gently used clothes to the LA Mission or responsibly recycle garments that were beyond repair, complimentary shoe cleaning by Jason Markk, bath bomb pressing with @LUSH, live music, and battery recycling from the city of Culver City. Kids got hands-on decorating compostable pots and took home seed packets to grow their own plants. It was a fun-filled way to explore ways to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. • An exciting evolution of Westfield UTC is underway! We recently announced an expansion of San Diego’s premier lifestyle destination, adding new, first-to-market luxury boutiques and chef-led restaurants to the center along with enhanced amenities, sustainability features, community gathering places, and greenspaces. Work on the expansion began in April 2024, with a phased opening starting in early 2026. We can’t wait! Kim Brewer, Senior Vice President, Development puts it perfectly: “Westfield UTC is a one-of-a-kind lifestyle destination, which continues to build on its longstanding legacy to deliver one of the best customer experiences in California. This project presents an exciting opportunity to unlock the full potential of the former Nordstrom space, adding something completely fresh for our guests and ensuring its continued positive impact in the community.” The expansion, planned for the former Nordstrom department store site and adjacent wing of shops, will further the center’s position as one of the most significant luxury and designer shopping destinations in Southern California. Plus, two globally inspired restaurants located along La Jolla Village Drive will join Westfield UTC’s signature dining collection. Sustainability is key to our mission and this project will continue to raise the bar on our efforts. We will pursue LEED certification, incorporating innovative, sustainable building strategies using renewable energy, natural materials, biophilic design, and biodiversity to enhance Westfield UTC’s environmental, social, and economic contributions to the local community. As an outdoor destination, the design of the expansion will be inspired by the resort-like experience throughout the center and the beautiful and refined architectural legacy of La Jolla. Breezy concourses accented with lush landscaping, richly detailed paving, and intimate groups of modern furnishings will provide guests with a wide range of opportunities to rest and recharge.
