Our clients hold 14 percent of total emerging market banking assets. IFC’s COVID-19-pandemic response package is ensuring liquidity for institutions that are providing trade and supply chain finance as well as growth and working capital for micro, small and medium enterprises—including women-owned businesses.

To enhance the efficiency and affordability of remittances in Africa, IFC - International Finance Corporation has announced a $75 million financing package for TerraPay, a digital payments provider, in partnership with asset manager ILX and development finance institutions Finnfund and BIO - the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries. This investment will enable TerraPay to expand partnerships with global money transfer operators, thereby increasing transfer volumes and reduce remittance costs. It will facilitate faster and more efficient international transfers for families and small businesses across Africa, where regulatory complexities and logistical challenges mean the cost of remittances often exceed the global average. The insurance sector plays an important role in well functioning economies, strengthening capital markets while enabling individuals and families to receive the healthcare they need, or entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers to rebuild their businesses. The uptick in climate change-related disasters has only amplified the need to expand access to insurance, particularly across emerging markets and developing economies where options are limited. To address this need, IFC - International Finance Corporation aims to increase our investments in the insurance sector from $400 million to $1 billion by 2030. The new facility will support the ongoing flow of trade in Africa by providing vital financing to importers and exporters of essential goods, with a particular focus on small, fragile, and conflict-affected states throughout the continent.
