Interesting article by Skift suggesting the volume of visitors attending the Paris Olympics and staying in local hotels is not as robust as expected. The big question is how much Parisian hotels increased their prices and whether the overall revenue will increase compared to last year. After the pandemic, hoteliers realized it was better to increase prices than drive occupancy, and perhaps this is why volumes of hotel bookings are not as high as during previous Olympics, in addition to the spike of Airbnb listings. https://lnkd.in/e9X8cH7W

💡 Last week, our C&W Hospitality team in Italy had a pleasure attending the Hospitality Forum 2024 in Milan. A warm thank you to Castello SGR and Scenari Immobiliari for hosting this event and to the expert panelists who delivered valuable insights into #hospitalitytrends. Alessandro Belli, head of Hospitality Italy at Cushman & Wakefield was honored to participate as a speaker in the panel “Diamo voce al mercato” (Let’s give a voice to the market), moderated by Francesca Zirnstein. “In the challenging global context, the hotel real estate market in Italy performs better than other asset classes. The growing hotel performance, thanks to the strong demand from international tourists, confirms the interest of investors in the Italian hospitality sector. However, innovation, investment in sustainability, and repositioning of real estate assets are needed.” – Alessandro Belli, Head of Hospitality Italy at Cushman & Wakefield #CWHospitality #HotelRealEstate #HotelInvestment #Italy #HospitalityForum2024

With the exception of a few countries in Europe (in particular Germany), May was a strong month all around for the continent. UK, Spain and France saw profit growth over 10% in the month vs the prior year. The US and Caribbean saw small growth in profits, whilst Mexico hotel profits declined by nearly 10%. Another tough month for Chinese hotels and for the first time in a while, Indian hotels. Thailand propping up the regional performance with more impressive numbers. The Middle East continues to perform very well, hotel profits grew over 14% year over year.
