  • Congratulations to 2024 Outstanding Special Roadway recipients WSP in the U.S. (Design Consultant) and HNTB/CONSOR Engineers (CEI Consultant) for their Glades Road Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project (Florida Department of Transportation District 4)! The project, located within the City of Boca Raton, reconfigured the SR 808/Glades Road at SR-9/I-95 interchange from a partial cloverleaf to a DDI to improve traffic operation, reduce congestion, and increase safety. Improvements along Glades Road between Renaissance Way and West University Drive included widening two bridges over I-95 and one over Military Trail/South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC), a new pedestrian bridge over I-95, roadway widening, drainage, lighting, signalization, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) construction. • Congratulations to 2024 Outstanding Environmental Award recipients TranSystems (Design Consultant) and AECOM (CEI Consultant) for their Skyway Wave Attenuation Design-Build Project (Florida Department of Transportation District 1)! TranSystems served as prime designer and engineer of record to contractor Vecellio & Grogan, Inc. to design, permit, and construct two breakwaters to provide wave attenuation to prevent erosion of the recently repaired seawall and fishing pier access road, as well as satisfy future seagrass mitigation needs to protect the Tampa Bay marine estuary. The team utilized WADs, which have proven to be a faster, better, and cheaper method of constructing breakwaters while simultaneously creating reefs and replenishing shorelines. WADs were used for this project in lieu of a traditional breakwater due to the deeper waters and large footprint being too costly to construct. Despite their roughly 20 years of being used in various locations around the country, the design build’s use of the WADs for this project marks the first time any state or federal-level agency in the U.S. has deployed them. • Congratulations to 2024 Outstanding PD&E/Planning Award recipients Stantec (Design Consultants) for their SR A1A over Sebastian Inlet – Bridge Replacement PD&E Study (Florida Department of Transportation District 4)! This PD&E Study evaluated bridge replacement alternatives for the structurally and functionally deficient historic bridge constructed in 1964 and the gap in system linkage for bicyclists and pedestrians. Because the bridge is a critically needed regional coastal route with limited and lengthy available detours, the project team developed all build alternatives that maintained traffic across the bridge during construction. Highlights include: • Bridge shifted to the east of the existing bridge • Roadway safety improvements • Improved Park entrances • Lengthened turn lanes at Park entrances • Continuation of shared use path on bridge and roadway • Addition of crosswalk at Park entrances • Addition of acceleration lane south Park entrance • Relocated Sebastian Inlet District access road For more information: https://lnkd.in/gidr-wbZ
