Summary: Ken started his insurance career in Cardiff in 1980, working as an insurance broker for an influential family group that would ultimately pave the way for a distinguished international career. On moving to Dubai in 1983, he joined the HSBC Group within their regional insurance practice, where he also concluded his professional exams in 1985, earning his ACII. Within a few years, he took over the helm, becoming the CEO of HSBC Insurance Brokers, Dubai, and built it into one of the most respected insurance brokers in the region. In 1999, he left HSBC and established a new Insurance Brokerage business (Insure Direct). By 2006 he completed his first M&A deal selling 90% of the operation to Istithmar World, the then Investment Arm of Dubai World. In Partnership with Dubai World, the business handled some of the most complex and substantial insurance risks of the decade, including an array of Major Real Estate, Hotel & other Investments across 5 Continents. During this period, M&A activity also continued with the addition of business units in Bahrain, Qatar and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In 2011, Ken was appointed a director of the World Wide Broker Network (WBN). Founded in 1989, WBN had grown from nine firms in Western Europe to more than 100 firms spanning the globe and serving clients through 500+ offices in six continents. In 2013 with the support of Istithmar World, Ken concluded the 100% sale of the Insure direct group of companies to the JLT Group. He continued to serve the business on the local board until finally resigning in 2016, after which he established the Refpoint Group. In 2017, he received an award for ‘Outstanding Achievement by an Individual’ at the annual MENAIR Awards recognising his achievements within the insurance industry over the past 35 years. In 2019, Refpoint transitioned into a new Insurance Consultancy Practice that aimed to become a major influencer in the industry and a true trusted advocacy for commercial and retail consumers. In 2020, Ken also joined the ranks of becoming an Author, having completed his first adventure novel with a second sequel released in Q3 2021. Having sold Refpoint Insurance Consultants in 2021, Ken returned to his core Insurance Brokerage specialty following his appointment as CEO Gargash Insurance Services LLC in December 2022. However, in May 2023 having also completed the third and final instalment of his KV66 book series Ken was recruited by Al Futtaim Willis to take on their Middle East Regional MD position and lead a firm that he has respected for the past 40 years.
