Thank you Gotham...I'm just saying

When we think of Batman's Gotham City, we always had an feeling that it was NYC and although in some movie versions Chicago was used, for the most part it has been New York City. As a media and advertising person - NYC is where fabled Madison Avenue was concocted (maybe an ad campaign?) However it came to be, New York is a beating heart of advertising and marketing.

With this in mind - I recall being at the Ogilvy West offices when I as promoted from the Latin America division of Neo@Ogilvy. The LA Ogilvy offices (hence Ogilvy West) were in Culver City, where I rented my flat (a loft type off La Cienega) and one of the things I remember feeling "this is LA not the NY office". Having reported to NY based agencies most of my professional life, I was a little surprised.

This is because most cities (while at Starcom/Publicis in Chicago) have this Love/Hate relationship with NYC. Working at major agencies and with large groups in NY I saw the other side of this - at Universal McCann (UM) and working with McCann WorldGroup, FBC, Initiative and J3 it was the "break the rules" thinking. I know I was lucky while at UM that I was able to be part of some very interesting pitches we won (Kraft/Heinz, MasterCard, New York State Lottery) where this "chutzpah" was marked.

Now in Miami - I feel lucky as the creatives at Glue-IQ have been very much about that NYC groove and its because in advertising we strive to be think out of the box. This past year I got to see amazing creative thinking, from the work with Dodge/Stellantis that was done to the way RBC comes to market - creative thinking is what rules. So that NYC "break the rules" attitude is about that, don't follow an operating manual but make your path, make your mark, and most of all be yourself.

Thank you Gotham - as I find I am more myself every day and that in the end of the day is what life is about.
