Summer slump? How you can use this time for your career

An empty office doesn’t have to mean a drop in productivity, because this stress-free time can be used to upgrade your professional life. Here are some tips on how to use this time efficiently:

Continuing Education

Make a detour to the nearest bookstore during your lunch break, or download that ebook you’ve been wanting to read for so long. There’s finally time! Check out industry-relevant articles, take an online course, and keep up with the latest trends and developments. Not only will you shine with your newly acquired knowledge, but you’ll also score points at your next client meeting.

Clean up

Why wait until the end of the year? Work now on the things you’ve been putting off until tomorrow and use the summer slump to “clean up” your to-dos. This includes emptying your inbox or sorting folders on your desktop. That way, you’ll be ready for the work stress when your colleagues return from vacation, and you’ll be able to focus on new projects.

Network

Now is the time to spruce up your business profiles and sort out your contact list. And in real life, summer is also the perfect time to network – use the barbecue to make new contacts and share industry trends in a relaxed atmosphere. Networking events or outdoor business evenings are also great for expanding your knowledge and engaging in exciting conversations.

Reflection and setting goals

Finally, the most important thing: reflect on your career situation. Are you happy with your current position, or do you want to change something in the future? In addition to your business profile, revise your resume and application documents, or write a speculative application for your desired employer. Prepare yourself optimally for the next job interview and train your self-presentation. With the help of the tool “Interview warm up” you can prepare yourself for the next job interview. Here you will be asked typical questions to which you will then have to answer, just like in a job interview. The software transcribes the answers and evaluates them. This gives you clues as to whether you use certain words in a continuous loop and gives you an insight into what of what is said is relevant to jobs.
