Serving Others

In this time and age, it does become difficult to serve others because of job or family obligations, the uncertainly of our future or the future of our nation. The American spirit to volunteer has been an important cornerstone since the start of the United States. Volunteering is one of the greatest honors and service we can bestow upon our fellow citizens, it helps define us of more of who we are and our purpose in life.

Volunteering also helps us gain valuable work experience when need to acquire more experience when many places will not hire you, because of the lack of experience. We can even assist in consulting others even when we are not getting paid to help others, but is can be added to your resume as work experience. Of course, there are a few places of employment that will not recognize volunteer work experience, but that is someone else loss and someone else’s gain.

I feel empowered and self-motivated in helping others, plus I am adding more experience to my resume. Many places of employment do recognize volunteer work as work experience and it should be. I have known many that have worked as volunteers for non-profit organization and have been offered full-time employment.

The power of serving others as a volunteer is a great humanitarian cause and it helps develop ourselves as a better person. I have volunteer in the past for the American Red Cross and Texas Military Forces. I continue to volunteer for the Alamo Area Community Emergency Response Team program and as a volunteer amateur radio operator. For the moment I have kept my volunteer time to the CERT program, Ham radio volunteer and drone search and rescue program, until I complete my second Master’s degree program in April of 2017.

Consider serving others, to help others and at the same time increase your work experience, maybe even expand your network of contacts. Through my volunteer work experience I have maintain a network of contacts and have develop some friendships that I still have today.
