PXL Talk with Lucas Sommer

Question: What do you enjoy / dislike in your role as COO?

Lucas Sommer: It keeps my mind busy / it keeps my mind busy.

Question: If you had a magic wand, what would you wish for PXL Vision?

Lucas Sommer: That all regulations around the world change in a way that our product becomes the only compliant solution and all our competitors need to knock on our door and ask to license it ;)

Question: If money were no object, what improvements would you like to see?

Lucas Sommer: An army of ERP developers who build and maintain a tailored ERP for us. Less short notice changes in budget or roadmap planning, more financial empowerment and delegation in the team, a nice office in Berlin, quarterly team events abroad, develop our product towards a self sovereign digital identity layer that is used globally, provide all PXLers with all the resources they need to achieve their professional but also personal goals. And invest in a PXL boat office.

Question: If it were possible to go back in time, what would you change and why?

Lucas Sommer: Things are good as they are, and every change in the past would have other consequences that I wouldn't have thought of. But to give a simple answer, mine Bitcoin in 2009 and fund any funny and creative ideas of PXLers :) And fund the PXL boat office.

Question: How do you see PXL in two years?

Lucas Sommer: 200%+ revenue growth from today, with a bigger team but including the same people, and the same work atmosphere.

Question: How about a four day week / shorter working hours - eg, 09:00 - 15:00?

Lucas Sommer: I fully support innovative systems that allow for more work life balance while not compromising the company’s ambitions. There is no black and white though and many factors play into this. Time is our scarcest resource and we should invest it in something we also believe in. This could for example be learning something new everyday, or improving a special skill. If this is what drives you, then reducing “work time” doesn’t make sense. Also, there are companies or positions where more focus allows one to generate the same output with less time. Personally I doubt that this can be applied to a fast-paced and ambitious startup company. Happy to learn about the latest research or examples that prove me wrong, let me know!

Question: Is PXL GmbH a sister or daughter company to PXL AG?

Lucas Sommer: It’s a daughter company (subsidiary), owned 100% by PXL Vision AG in Switzerland. It’s a service provider, which means its purpose is to generate costs which are fully covered by the mother company. But there is no profit flow from Germany to Switzerland at all.
