Live Enterprise: Leading by example

Earlier this year I had penned a couple of blogs, introducing you to the concept of Live Enterprise, how Infosys is pioneering it and why every enterprise should be on this digital transformation journey sooner than later.

For the uninitiated, Live Enterprise is our technology vision for future to help traditional enterprises transform and operate like digital natives. Infosys has always believed in leading by example. We have been working on transforming Infosys to be a Live Enterprise and over the last year have been working with our clients to help accelerate their digital transformation journey using the Live Enterprise suite of IP/Platforms that we have developed as part of our own transformation. Let me attempt to illustrate how Infosys is bringing the core characteristics of a Live Enterprise to life.

Connected – A Live enterprise connects humans, data and machines and creates an active ecosystem where interactions happen synchronously and asynchronously

  • Today, Infoscions are connected through digital tools available on their commoditized devices/phone, allowing them access the enterprise functions and do their work anytime, anywhere.
  • All the things (smart products/IOT devices, equipment’s and infrastructure) are getting connected through API’s enabling actions to be performed in real-time and to sense the state of these machines. For e.g. the entire building cooling system and ambient atmosphere within a physical space can now be monitored and managed in real-time and is continuously optimized.
  • All the data elements that exists within the different silos are connected through knowledge graphs (using graph databases) and provides real-time visibility and better insights to make autonomous decisions. For e.g. based on a user learning and career aspiration, the platform automatically suggests personalized learning paths, connects to user community with similar interest & aspirations and nudges them along the way to accomplish their goals

Observant and Sentient – A Live enterprise can observe and sense what’s happening within the entire ecosystem of users, things, business operations, events and uses this information to continuously improve experience, services and drive micro change across the user base while keeping privacy and security in mind.

  • All the connected digital tools used by humans, start providing telemetry data in real-time, like our central nervous system which is then processed and used to sense, make sense and respond.
  • Once data starts flowing through, it becomes possible to sense, make sense of what happening in the connected ecosystem and respond proactively in real-time like living organisms. For e.g. sentience is being used to predict equipment failure and plan for repair or parts before the failure happens.

Alive and Agile – When collaboration becomes seamless and when the ecosystem of humans and machines are working towards the same goals and outcomes, an enterprise starts to come alive.

  • As the enterprises start becoming observant and sentient, their ability to start making autonomous decisions improves and a lot of routine decisions can be made automatically by the platforms and business critical or exploratory decisions are augmented and provided for human users to consider and apply.

Reimagining experiences and processes to enable sentience is critical and the processes must have zero latency, proximity to source (all insights & information available at the time of making decisions), the ability to perform instant simulation, take users on guided path and be able to get continuous micro feedback. This coupled with the shared digital infrastructure enabling the processes in a cloud first, mobile first, AI first and Polycloud architecture enables the live enterprise to become agile

Innovative – As a live enterprise becomes sentient, alive and agile, the ability to perform rapid experiments and innovations becomes possible and this helps increase the velocity of new ideas.

  • In a live enterprise it is possible to quickly scale the innovations to entire ecosystem, learn from the innovations and use them to continuously learn and improve. For e.g. we recently launched a new Live Enterprise Workplace platform in 8 weeks from concept to pilot rollout and today it is has become the foundation for our workplace and collaboration

Our digital transformation journey is not complete and there is still lot to be accomplished and we are continuing to work on it. We are curating the live enterprise journey in a book, that Jeff Kavanaugh from Infosys Knowledge Institute and I have co-authored. For more details click below

Really cool, Rafee! Would love to explore how we at Amazon can be more intentional in partnering with you in this Live Enterprise journey!
