A friend who owns a successful business called to ask me questions about digital. His team believes that digital is only the technical aspect of their business. This made me think about what digital means for small to medium business leaders, and how we’ve become so focused on customers, and less-focused on educating ourselves and our teams. 

Studies show that people investigate by using Google search engine more than learning from reading educational books or literature. Our attention has become blurred with a flood of information on the internet. Big concepts like strategy, digital marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO) have become increasingly complicated, with an overflow of internet mis-information.

Information overload often results in ‘analysis paralysis’ where you’re not sure how to implement a digital strategy or know which part you need to focus on first. But here’s the thing, getting your business digital ready (or digital savvy) may mean taking different steps, depending on the nature of your business, products and/or services.

Which brings me to the reason why I have started this new monthly series on LinkedIn. My aim of The Digital Optimisation series is to cut through the noise of overwhelm, and give you some profit-making steps that actually work, to increase leads and ultimately sales.

I will cover a variety of concepts based on the following:

a) It brings in results - positive or negative. I will share the good and the things that don’t work very well. This means you can evaluate what to implement or leave out.

b.) There is always a lesson you can use that covers the following:

  1. The problem.
  2. The plan.
  3. The solution including an analysis of what worked, or didn’t go so well.
  4. How you can use this for your business.

Giving you this information will help you determine the pros and cons of digital and whether you want to grow your business.
