How To Get The Verification Badge On Your LinkedIn Profile – Step-by-Step Guide

LinkedIn users can obtain a verification badge on their LinkedIn profile. This step-by-step guide shows you how to get the badge in over 60 countries outside of North America. The process is very simple. So simple that reading this guide will take probably longer than getting verified.

The current list of countries is down at the bottom of this article.

Why get verified on LinkedIn?

From LinkedIn…

Verified LinkedIn accounts get 60% more profile views on average.
Verifications are always free.

and

At LinkedIn, we know that authenticity is key to creating meaningful interactions. The verification badge on your profile indicates that you were able to confirm specific information about your account. Having verified information helps provide authenticity signals to others that you’re who you say you are. Seeing verified information on others’ profiles helps foster a trusted community so you can make more informed decisions around connecting with other professionals.

What you need in advance:

  • A current and valid Passport (99% of current Passports are NFC)
  • NFC equipped smartphone (if you are using Apple Pay or Google Pay then your smartphone has NFC)
  • The LinkedIn App installed on your smartphone

Another important requirement is that your name on LinkedIn must be exactly the same as shown on your passport. So a David who likes to be called Dave, and an Elizabeth who likes to be called Liz will need to change their name on LinkedIn before starting the steps below.

To get the verification badge, I recommend removing emojis, punctuation, and any qualifications from your name. MSc might look cool, but it’s not your name.

Steps 1 – 3: Tap, Tap, and Tap

Tap, tap, and tap.

Step 4 : Agree To The Terms & Conditions

Agree to the Persona terms.

Step 5: Select Your Country

Choose your country from the drop-down list.

Step 6: Scan your Passport and Confirm Your Details

Clever stuff.

Step 7: Take A Selfie and Submit

Just a headshot is required. No trout pout or filters. I didn’t even brush my hair.

Verified!

Argentina is NOT currently supported. Not sure why this is still being informed as such, not only here, but in the official help page too 🤦♂️

I've found this verification extremely frustrating (and I'm a LinkedIn Top voice). Like most people, I'm known by a nickname and because that nickname isn't an exact match, it won't confirm me.

V good article Fox Tucker BUT the whole process is frustrating me at the moment. I can't get verified because I am in the UAE and the Persona list doesn't incude the UK for some reason (it's v limited). If I change my account to the UK (as LinkedIn advised me to) it still doesn't work. The system doesn't accept the UAE Govt ID card either, or my (own) company email address as this verification is limited to a few organisations at the moment. SO frustrating. I've been told to do the verification when I am in the UK and change my location to the UK (I tried to fool it using a VPN 🤣). Grrrrrrrrr! DEEP breaths...
