Botar, Irina Denishenko, Gábor Dobó, and Merse Pál Szeredi, in conversation with Aleksandar Bošković and Meghan Forbes. This rich, in-depth exploration of Dada’s roots in East-Central Europe is a vital addition to existing research on Dada and the avant-garde. Through deeply researched case studies and employing novel theoretical approaches, the volume rewrites the history of Dada as a story of cultural and political hybridity, border-crossings, transitions, and transgressions, across political, class and gender lines. Dismantling prevailing notions of Dada as a “Western” movement, the contributors to this volume present East-Central Europe as the locus of Dada activity and techniques. The articles explore how artists from the region pre-figured Dada as well as actively “cannibalized”, that is, reabsorbed and further hybridized, a range of avant-garde techniques, thus challenging “Western” cultural hegemony.

Super happy to share the news that the chapter that I co-authored with Sandra Ponzanesi, "Digital Media and Migration. Reflections from the Southern Margins of Europe" for the edited volume 'Creating Europe from the Margins. Mobilities and Racism in Postcolonial Europe' (eds. Loftsdóttir, Hipfl, Ponzanesi) is finally out! https://lnkd.in/dwhdqKBz Our chapter aims to untangle the relationship between digital media practices and marginality in one of the geographical and discursive peripheries of Southern Europe, Italy, in particular in the city of Rome. Its intention is to disrupt the myth of Europe by exploring the epistemological and methodological limitations of the field of digital media at the crossroads with migration studies from this position of marginality, by taking into account the digital practices of Somali and Turkish migrant women living in Rome.

📚 Discover our new article on decolonizing justice systems in African countries! We are thrilled to announce the publication of our latest article, "Decolonize Justice! A perspective on the role of international development policies and citizens’ experience of justice institutions," co-authored with Julien Moriceau of INANGA. This article critically examines the persistence of Western legal and judicial systems in African countries, despite their evident misalignment with local needs and realities. It delves into the historical roots of these systems, established during the colonial era under the guise of modernization, and how they have been perpetuated and even bolstered by contemporary international development institutions. These institutions, driven partly by economic growth agendas and the security of foreign investments, continue to impose Western legal frameworks, often at the expense of local justice systems and the African populations they serve. I was interviewed by Yliopisto lehti, a popular science magazine published by the University of Helsinki, to discuss trends in people's satisfaction with democracy. Here are the key points we covered: 1. Democracy is a lengthy process, but politicians often overpromise, leading to a mismatch between expectations and the capacity of state institutions to deliver. This disparity fuels growing dissatisfaction among citizens. 2. The global decline in the quality of democracy is a worrisome trend. However, there's reason for optimism in the increasing public pressure to enhance the performance of democratic institutions. Past experiences have demonstrated that such pressure can bring about positive changes. 3. While it's crucial to acknowledge cautionary examples like Hungary, it's also important to understand that Hungary's situation may not reflect broader trends in Europe. A perspective on the role of international development policies and citizens' experience of justice institutions."
