What an incredible list of projects working at the intersection of climate justice and digital rights, aka the awardees of the latest round of the Green Screen Catalyst Fund. I'm thrilled to see some familiar names whose fantastic work deserves support (working at the intersections of different movements is incredibly hard to get funding for!) – and I'm also so happy to learn about some new-to-me names and projects which sound so important and needed. Full disclosure, I applied to this fund myself (for an idea I had about exploring a reparations framing in the context of digital rights) – and I can honestly say, the Community Reviewers did a great job in their decisions! https://lnkd.in/ej7ws8aR * PS. thanks to LinkedIn's weird algorithm, I can't for the life of me remember who posted this or how it appeared in my feed. Thank you, whoever you are!

How foundation money is transforming news. There's a trend toward foundations supporting and funding local start-ups. Bullet points of interest: * "Ford, MacArthur, Knight—are steadily increasing their spending on local news, and their regional counterparts are joining in." * "The up-and-comers are blending traditional journalism with grassroots community work." * "Indiana will soon become home to one of the most ambitious local media startups to date, fueled by more than ten million dollars—including a $1.8 million Lumina investment and more from AJP and several other Indiana-based foundations. The project is known as the Indiana Local News Initiative or ILNI. It will open a twenty-five-person newsroom in Indianapolis—where the Indianapolis Star, owned by Gannett, has lost nearly 60 percent of its staff over the past decade—and has established partnerships with other media outlets to provide coverage across the state." Check out my latest piece in OpenGlobalRights, "Land as a lens for future-facing human rights advocacy". Within any change in the ownership of land lies a story about the kind of future being built and who gets to be a part of it. Two dimensions are important: - Strengthening transparency and accountability of ownership patterns. This opens up opportunities for collaboration, for example between groups working on anti-corruption, the right to adequate housing, and the right to a healthy environment - And challenging the status quo—advancing creative new approaches to how humans value and imagine our relationship to land. With escalating climate change, urbanization, and conflict - the finiteness of the World's land is more apparent by the day. The piece links throughout to innovation underway, including the It's Material and Institute for Human Rights and Business "Building Transformation StoryMap" with examples from multiple regions: https://bit.ly/44oaLSr; mapping and provocations by Dark Matter Labs; initiatives by 10 Tooba | Applied Research on The Built Environment, Financial Transparency Coalition, FACT Coalition Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and more. FYI Land Portal Foundation, Omidyar Network, Landesa. The piece is part of the OGR series on the Future of Rights and Governance (FORGE), building from the conference of the same name last year hosted by NYU Center for Human Rights and Global Justice: https://lnkd.in/ebnDC_vH https://lnkd.in/evD8w7yC

THcommunications: eco-ideas and solution strategies for positive change development. Practicing the loyal thorn in the paw of doldrum pragmatism and monopolistic capital self-indulgence to promote positive change.
Censorship is for dictators and those we cannot trust. We have the right to read, listen and support whatever we want. I'm not endorsing obscenity, I am pointing it out. To ban Amanda from sharing her thoughts, concerns and news is immoral. Stopping someone from presenting facts and information to help anyone who is interested understand pressing eco-issues, news, that can help inform and foster ideas for repairing our fragile and finite world is WRONG. Linkedin is a communication conduit, not a judge. Be fair, not fearful. Don't be a block, be a" means to" better understanding. Amazon did the same to me recently, because I was holding it accountable for endorsing who do not not support their products. Amazon stopped my order review which called out the vendor as well as Amazon for collaborating in what was clearly and expensive customer rip-off (as I pointed out in a recent post). Don't ban ideas, Build Abundance! Do the right thing and give Amanda back her audience access. We need her sensible insights.
Human, authentic. continually optimistic bringing only good to my clients. Interesting, happy, investigative reporter

This year has been marked by a personal commitment to channel my skills towards projects of real significance. Engaging in discussions with friends during a recent hackathon, we sought to identify a software venture that could effectively address the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. After much deliberation, our focus converged on what is now known as JustClimate. JustClimate stands as a testament to our collective dedication to empower communities profoundly impacted by the repercussions of corporate and governmental economic activities. Our mission is clear: to return agency and resilience to those whose lives have been disproportionately affected by environmental injustices. Embracing this challenge head-on, I've set a personal goal to deliver a functional version of JustClimate by year's end. Beyond mere software development, we envision establishing JustClimate as a nonprofit organization, leveraging resources to establish community centers nationwide. Our vision extends beyond technological solutions; we aim to mobilize a diverse array of professionals dedicated to effecting positive change. Recognizing the limitations of traditional legal approaches, JustClimate commits to a comprehensive strategy beyond convention. Pioneering innovative avenues in advocacy, we span from public protests and boycotts to collaborative partnerships, policy advocacy, and educational campaigns. Our dedication extends to community workshops, media engagement, and technological innovation, addressing climate justice challenges at both local and global levels. Embracing this multifaceted approach, JustClimate strives for a holistic impact, forging a path toward a more sustainable and equitable future. As we embark on this journey, it's crucial to celebrate the milestones that pave our path. From the curated News Feed illuminating climate justice issues to the Interactive Maps highlighting areas most affected by environmental injustices, each feature of JustClimate serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment.

Global Greengrants is developing an ecosystemic approach to grantmaking that views the entire system of actors and organizations working for environmental justice as interconnected and interdependent rather than competitive. In a new article in the Journal of Human Rights Practice, our CEO, Laura García, shares more about why this ecosystemic approach is important, and what we've learned along the way. https://lnkd.in/etgM3Ujh

Insightful as always, thank you Michel Bauwens. I would like to argue that we need to go beyond the commons and find this social cohesion through both immanence and transcendence. We need to embrace our spiritual nature, to experience what being alive really means, to expand our consciousness and to become what we are meant to be. The paradigm shift is a new state of being, a new way to be in the world. The "Manifesto for a Civil Society in Service of Life" presents 10 rallying points intended to serve as a foundation for our common projects in service of Life. It’s been signed already by more than 1700 people and 16 collectives in the francophonie. This deep transformation is under way driven by Life itself and more and more people are joining a movement that goes well beyond the usual boundaries of social, economical or political concepts and affiliations.
