I find quite it shocking that brands of all sizes neglect the best social media platform (in my opinion). Every brand has without fail at least an Instagram, TikTok or both, but you’d be hard pressed to find those with a Youtube channel, let alone an active one. I’ve never really understood this, since there’s a reason Youtube has been standing strong for 20 years and showing no signs of slowing down. There are a number of reasons I think it’s superior to the other platforms but it mainly boils down to its superior community building and ability to build that connection between audience and brand. Nowhere else on the internet would millions of people sit down to watch a single video lasting anywhere from 10-min all the way up to 4 hours. The culture of the platform permits brands and creators to expand and not rush the video which in turn strengthens the relationship between the two. Think of it this way: no one excitedly waits for their favourite creator’s next Instagram post but they absolutely do on Youtube and that is the norm. Great YouTube channels are like shows on Netflix. In my opinion, creators with YouTube-based audiences are far more successful at mobilising their audience with far higher conversion rates. Is it possible to have loyal fans using only one of the short-form platforms, like Instagram? Of course. However, Youtube not only rewards their creators far better than the others, as the barriers to earning ad revenue are the lowest among all of the platforms, but in my opinion, YouTubers tend to have the longest social media lifespans out of all the platforms, due to the robustness of the relationship between them and their audience. If you think your brand’s content wouldn’t work on Youtube, I truly think that couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead of talking about your product, talk about the challenges, obstacles, and lessons you learnt along the way to getting your business to where it is now. What would you tell yourself to do differently if you had to start again? This is what people want to know. There’s a million different videos that you could make about your brand, product or even yourself as an employee or founder of your company. If you want help getting started with your Youtube channel, drop me a message.
