I've been talking to many students (and their parents) who have cleared their engineering entrance exams, about choosing the right branch and college. My views are a bit unconventional, so take them with a grain of salt. Here they are: 🔧 Selecting the Branch  I categorize branches (for simplicity) into: ➡️ Virtual Branches: #ComputerScience, #InformationTechnology, #ArtificialIntelligence, #MachineLearning, #DataScience ➡️ Physical Branches: #Mechanical, #Manufacturing, #Electronics, #Electrical, #Chemical, #Aerospace 📌 Avoid 'Virtual' branches unless you're strongly passionate about them: ➡️ The demand for lucrative jobs in these fields is decreasing due to advancements in AI. ➡️ Oversupply of CS (#ComputerScience) students is diluting their market value. ➡️ Scholarships for Masters in these fields are relatively less common. ➡️ Even if you choose a different branch (say a 'Physical' branch) , you'll/can still study Programming, DSA (#DataStructuresAlgorithms), AI (#ArtificialIntelligence), and ML (#MachineLearning), making you eligible for software/ML jobs. But not vice versa, right? ➡️ 'Physical' branches may not offer astronomical salaries, but they promise a more robust and sustainable career, IMO. 🎓 Selecting the College  🏫 Reputation and brand matter more than the branch: ➡️ A reputable college offers a strong ecosystem: bright peers, an alumni network, and lifelong pride. ➡️ Be flexible with the branch if you get into a prestigious college, but don't choose a branch you dislike. So, have a negative-branch list, to be avoided. Ultimately, the decision is yours, but just my two cents... BTW, to give a personal example, my daughter chose Electronics at a reasonably reputed college. Just FYI. #Engineering #CareerAdvice #CollegeSelection #FutureProof #STEM

I attended Iyengar classes for 3 years (Level 1 only 😀 ) and have now started studying Patanjali's YogaSutra. Here are some key takeaways from this small, terse, witty, and extremely profound work: Patanjali Yogasutra has 195(6) Sutras across 4 Chapters 📜✨ 👉 1. Samadhi Pada (Still your mind; everything else follows) - Definition of yoga (union), calming the mind, stages of mental control. - In a world of constant distraction, mastering mental focus is the new superpower. 👉 2. Sadhana Pada (No pain, no gain—eightfold path edition) - Practical steps (Ashtanga Yoga - the eight limbs), discipline, and effort required for yoga. - Provides a structured approach to self-improvement, crucial for personal and professional growth. 👉 3. Vibhuti Pada (Unlocking your inner superhero—use powers wisely!) - Supernatural abilities arising from advanced yoga practice, the temptations they bring. - Emphasizes ethical use of skills and abilities, a reminder against letting success corrupt integrity. 👉 4. Kaivalya Pada (Ego who? The ultimate liberation guide) - The nature of liberation and freedom, transcending the ego. - Encourages detachment from the material, fostering mental peace and resilience in the face of life's challenges. Each chapter of the Patanjali Yogasutra offers timeless wisdom, crucial for navigating the complexities of modern life with grace and poise. Most advisory requests I receive are about building ChatGPT-like chatbots on 'their own' data. This process, known as #DomainAdaptation, can be achieved through various approaches (in increasing order of complexity, cost, expertise, and accuracy): #FewShotPrompting, #RetrievalAugmentedGeneration, and #FineTuning. Yesterday, I delivered a talk titled "Fine-tuning Google's Gemma LLM for GST FAQs." In this session, I discussed the fundamentals of fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) and demonstrated how to use the #Ludwig framework to fine-tune Google's open-source LLM, Gemma, on a corpus of frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to Goods and Services Tax (#GST). Inspired by Charlie Munger's insights and articles from Farnam Street, I've just published a blog diving into some of the most powerful mental models to enhance your decision-making and problem-solving skills.
