In Luxembourg we are slowly coming back to work after the summer when things were moving slowly or not at all no matter if you had or not your vacation. Still several reports (LISER or Chambre de salariés) state that employees in Luxembourg work more (40h/week with 1701h/year) than the sourounding countries (Germany has 37,7h/week with 1667h per year and similar holidays, Belgium and France even less). The proposal for a 4 day work/week was received with skepticism by companies and the report of Liser has mixed messages. Still the newly approved Mental Health National Plan forsee more prevention….We need to talk more about the factors of mental well being and give the opportunity to the people to apply it! We have all these money 😝 and for what?

Leaving behind a legacy at the work place is important maybe to a small few but in the wider world, it seems nobody really cares. Ideally, people should be thinking about their legacy at work by age 50. Sadly, many don’t. And when they start pondering one in their early 60s, just before retiring, they’re often scrambling, not knowing where to begin. Work legacy should only be about such things as creating new work processes, mentoring and transferring knowledge to younger employees and training new talent. It is what you pass on to the next generations and your peers in as broad a sense as you would like.

One of the great side benefits of my Australia / New Zealand adventure was that I did not drive for 35 days. Lots of Ubers, planes, trains, bikes and kayaks but I did not drive a car. Yesterday on my way home from work I approached a small 'roundabout' - I had a moment of panic - after training myself to look 'the other' direction when crossing for the last month - I questioned how to enter the roundabout! Anyone that knows me, knows I dislike roundabouts anyways - it dates back before the movie that made fun of Dupont Circle and DC traffic (The American President from 1995- Michael Douglas and Annette Bening - a classic DC scene!). After my heart rate went back down a few miles later, I had a 'silver lining moment' - how cool was that (beyond not getting in an accident) - I was only gone 35 days yet I was looking at old things with a new perspective! My 'mini sabbatical' was amazing and I did awesome things and hopefully as I jump back into my 'normal', I can continue to keep some of that magic and look at things with a new perspective. 🐨 How can I keep some of that daily excitement going? 🛩 How can I approach the normal tasks with positive energy and a sense of adventure? 🎁 How can I see our everyday opportunities as a gift? 🏖 How can I retain some of that laid back and unstressed attitude? ⚽ How do I bring all that to my 'team' and colleagues? Cheers to the next adventures beyond my daily commute! Cheers to a great new school year! Finally, it’s that time of year we all look forward to - summer vacation. I'm unplugging - more literally than usual. I'm generally not dependent on my phone, but I also feel it increasingly demands more daily attention. That's why I will put it away this summer to create better space for other, more important things. Summer and vacation have a sense of freedom, but this summer seems different. How did we end up with the largest continuous war on our continent since World War II? With a violent conflict in the Middle East? With a significant rightward shift in several large countries in Europe? With a worrying and fateful American election, an increasing buildup of structural competition, and a budding trade war with China? A summer where we inevitably will be confronted with continuous climate change. It's a stark contrast to the joy of our summer vacation, and it's a reminder of the global challenges we face. As Europeans, we must remember to appreciate the overall conditions in which we can live our lives compared with the rest of the world – a summer in freedom. Let's promise to pause and remind each other of this: The greatest threat to freedom is that we take it for granted.

The celebration of my Birthday season has begun, and I have so much to be grateful for. To mark this occasion, I want to showcase some of my achievements. Accomplishments in 2023: ✨ Increased my market investments and mastered diversifying my portfolio for improved ROI. ✨ Successfully reached my financial goals towards becoming a property owner. ✨ Leaned further into developing my professional skillset, driving collaboration, challenged myself to analyze opportunities of improvement and create solutions which would facilitate my professional growth. ✨ Explored Spain, Belgium, Amsterdam, Paris, and London for the first time, with a potential move to Spain in the future. ✨ Prioritized my emotional, mental, and fitness health. Lifetime Achievements: ✨ The first and only person in my immediate family to attend and graduate from college. ✨ The sole family member to live independently. ✨ Pioneered as the first woman in my immediate family to pursue a career and drive. ✨ Explored 10 countries and navigated the Caribbean. What lies ahead: ✨ Enhancing my professional skills and expanding my lifelong learning capabilities. ✨ Exploring more of the world. ✨ Growing my family. ✨ Prioritizing health. ✨ Building wealth.

We often say that, "it's the little things that make the biggest difference". Some of those little differences are: 1) truly valuing your organizational talent by supporting their need for a recharge. 2) providing a true "out-of-office" experience by redistributing work (e.g., email messages) while away 3) recognizing that the wellbeing of our talent/teams IS what drives performance for each individual AND our customers/clients. If we have visited in the last year, I see little chance that you have not heard me speak about my summer plans for 2023. Eide Bailly has a sabbatical program, and this year was my year. For the majority of my time away, my family and I were in Costa Rica. This is not intended to be a travel log, but I have a few takeaways (professional and personal) that I wanted to share. Professional Takeaways: 1 – I am part of an incredible team. In my seven weeks away, my clients and prospects were very well taken care of. Nothing slipped through the cracks. 2 – I love my job. Our firm, my clients, my co-workers and other professional relationships are the reason for this. 3 – Being part of an organization that invests so heavily in culture is a rarity and contributes heavily to #2. Personal Takeaways: 1 – Costa Rica is beyond description. The access to nature, the kind people and the food all have me already planning my next trip. 2 – I am going to be VERY good at retirement. 3 – My family is the best. It's vacation season which made me think of this little thing that can go a long way for your career (and the careers of others). When you are going out of office (what is an office!!!), don't have your boss handle your coverage when you are out. Instead, delegate to someone on your team, or even someone on another team but looking for growth opportunities. This has two benefits. First, you get to practice delegation, which is generally hard for a lot of people, even/especially high performers. Two, you are giving someone (typically junior to you) a growth opportunity in that they are able to get a dry run at doing the "next job." It's a win-win. Your boss will appreciate it too ;)

Reflecting on a year of growth and change in the UK: Today marks a significant personal milestone: one year since I embarked on a new chapter of my life in the United Kingdom. This journey has been a tapestry of professional evolution, personal growth, joyful events, and the occasional unforeseen challenge. Yet, as I look back, the overarching sentiment is one of positivity. Professionally, I've stretched my boundaries and grown in my career, embracing new roles and responsibilities that have both challenged and rewarded me. Personally, I've forged connections that have turned into friendships, making this country feel like a home away from home. Even the shocks along the way have been valuable lessons in resilience and adaptability—qualities that are indispensable in today's ever-changing world. As I stand at this one-year mark, I am grateful for the past and optimistic about the future. Life has a way of surprising us, and I'm eager to see what it has in store.
