Sometimes I get gifts from older women. No chocolate boxes or anything like that. 😉 Every now and then I receive things such as silk fabrics, old laces, buttons and even sewing patterns. What am I supposed to do with that?, you might think. These things sometimes turn out to be really valuable treasures. For example some years ago an old lady gave me a box with fine black cotton laces - at least 100 years old. ❤️ One of my favorite customers recently brought me stack full of finest silk scarves she didn’t need anymore. She wanted me to make one of the silk ribbons you can order from my limo website and the rest, she said, was for my personal use. ❤️ Apart from the nice gesture, what strikes me most is this: They seem to have a different understanding of craftsmanship. They understand the value of materials - even if it’s only a small piece of fabric. One of my personal drivers is to establish a new (or rather old) understanding of the value of a piece of garment. Not just the material, but the many steps that are necessary to produce a piece of clothing. Did you know that around 100 years ago a valuable piece of clothing could be brought to a pawnbroker as a deposit? 🌿 If we manage to build a relationship to the clothes we wear, we will not easily throw them away. 🌿 That’s when sustainability comes natural. #sustainablefashion #madewithlove #upcyclingfashion Photo: Alena Nelipa

Head of Knitwear at Veronica Beard | Fashion industry leader bridging the gap between creative and business needs to help brands develop and produce best-selling collections
Anyone who knows me knows I have A LOT of opinions about cashmere and how many brands use it. But I think this articulates it best: “If a brand’s selling a cashmere sweater for $60 or $70, something’s fundamentally wrong. Someone is losing out in that. And we’re all losing out in the end. Cashmere is way too cheap.” ✔ Raw Materials Teams: question where your fibers are coming from ✔ Product Developers: work with your factories to adjust washing/softening so these garments don't fall apart after a handful of wears (cashmere should feel a bit more like wool) ✔ Designers: lean into the creation of more season-less styles ✔ Sales Teams: educate the customer on WHY cashmere is a luxury fiber that's worth the $400+ (minimum) price tag https://lnkd.in/eEUqGaq8 #knitwear #sustainabledesign #fashionindustry #fashiondesign #luxurygoods

How do you know when you can hand wash or should dry clean delicate items? It can be crucial for maintaining both the aesthetic and structural integrity of certain pieces of clothing. Fibres like wool and cashmere, can contract under the stress of water, leading to shrinkage. Dry cleaning is best for tough, non-organic stains like lipstick. Generally cotton, linen, or polyester blends are safe to hand wash but always do a spot test (somewhere inconspicuous) first. But there are a handful of fabrics that you should absolutely pay attention to the ‘dry clean only’ tag, like viscose, polyamide, items with manufactured pleating, structured pieces like neckties and blazers with shoulder pads, suede, and non-washable leather. . . . #garmentcare #drycleaning #clothingcaresolution #clothing #garments #ties #scarves #handwashonly #fashion #style #tiemaster

The Sweater Savior Project 🧵✨🪡 At the top of the year we often have wardrobe choices to make. What stays, what goes? 🍃 Sometimes we find our favorite cashmere sweater with unexpected holes in it due to hungry, cashmere chomping moths. 💔 A disaster, you might think. I do have ways to keep cashmere safe from these critters on my blog, but if your best attempts fail, there is still a solution. 💡 The Sweater Savior Project works in a couple of ways: I’ll take your damaged cashmere sweaters and reincarnate them into a new garment, pillow, dog sweater, or accessory for you using code #sweatersavior 🧵 Or I’ll take them and give you a gift certificate to be used on any purchase. 🪡 Celebrate the new year by giving one or more of your cashmere sweaters a new life! By participating in the Sweater Savior Project, you’ll not only have something new for yourself, you’ll be doing your part to save the planet by reducing landfill. 🌎 Details can be found on my blog and on the bio link. Reduce, reuse, and recycle: This has been the mantra for years. Let’s talk about reusing for a moment. But why should we reuse our old clothes, and what can we do to make those clothes even better?
