🏡 I've been asked why I’ve never gone in-house. It was the dream at the start of my career — more 💸 and less stress. 🐢 At the time, in-house had a reputation for moving slowly; the quality wasn’t quite there; the work was boring. 🌊 But the tide’s turned and in-house agencies and product teams are the ones pushing brands forward. Briefs and ways of working have changed over the years resulting in an energising exchange of knowledge and expertise that creates value for customers, users and stakeholders. This stuck with us when we were working through 10Nineteen’s proposition and it’s the lens that drives our conversations with each other and potential partners. Leads at brands are actively looking for consulting relationships to level-up what their already very capable teams are doing. It’s no longer us vs them. Instead of being a scary sign of things to come for us as a new business, we believe the cake is big enough for everyone to have a slice and enjoy it too. 🍰

I think a lot about Perfy's first year in 2022. Despite having nearly a decade of experience at that point, I was unprepared, and I made grave mistakes. I surely wasn't ready for the onslaught of NOs that occurred. But, to be honest, I deserved them. Perfy's taste was there, but the packaging was nowhere near where it needed to be. So, what do you do if you produce a full commercial production run but don't nail the packaging? You've got to make the best use of that inventory, learn as much as possible, and collect as much data as possible. Here is ONE strategy and FIVE non-negotiable needs to help drive early sales and parlay them into greater distribution gains. I'm still figuring things out as I go, but if I were launching all over again, I would launch with these plans out of the gate this time around. Little did I know, running her account would become a crash course in sales! Here are some key lessons I've picked up along the way: 1. Know Your Audience: Understanding who follows my petfluencer account helped me tailor content that resonates. The same goes for sales—know your target market and speak their language. 2. Consistency is Key: Regular, engaging posts keep followers hooked. In sales, consistent follow-up and engagement build trust and long-term relationships. 3. Authenticity Matters: People follow my account because they love genuine, heartwarming pet moments. Authenticity in sales builds credibility and loyalty. 4. Engage and Interact: Responding to comments and messages fosters a sense of community. In sales, active listening and intentional interactions drive customer satisfaction. 5. Resiliency is key: I approach many brands for sponsorship and only some say yes. In sales, we get many more no's than yes's: remembering that the next "yes" is around the corner helps! 6. Leverage Analytics: Tracking which posts perform best helped refine my strategy. In sales, data-driven decisions enhance targeting and effectiveness. 7. Adapt and Evolve: Social media trends change, and so do market conditions. Being adaptable and open to new approaches is crucial in both arenas. What worked a few years ago may not work any longer. Growing a petfluencer account taught me invaluable lessons about connection, persistence, and strategy. These principles apply easily to sales, proving that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places! I'm a big user of research and data to back up what I might say to someone, especially when I put my expert hat on in a field that is so misunderstood - #branding. That's so important that there is an entire branding concept around it called #emotionalbranding that I directy learned from the best - French branding gurus Joël Desgrippes and Marc Gobe @Brandimage now SGK that coined this concept decades ago. We debated around the role of emotions in B2B space: is that really at play when you decide for a company and you have even more rationale to make an informed decision? Well...the answer is yes: behind any corporate decision is a human being. And that human being is the very same emotional creature than the B2C consumer.
