Railbased transport is unrivaled in terms of #sustainability. Within the EU, #rail transport accounts for just under 2 percent of total energy consumption in the transport sector. At the same time, however, rail accounts for 13 percent of freight transport and 7 percent of passenger transport. The switches are therefore set for a renaissance of rail as the most sustainable mode of mass transportation by far and in every respect. Greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, land consumption: Rail beats all other modes of transport hands down. #EnablingGreenMobility

The Victorian Government, #Australia is leading a call to action to deliver a #zero-emissions #freight transport roadmap as it sets one of the most ambitious global reduction targets to reach net zero across the Victorian economy by 2045. The Government will co-design policies, regulations, infrastructure and technology to accelerate next generation sustainable mobility and meet climate targets. Access maps will reduce the need for structural assessments on a permit-by-permit basis for operators of approved vehicles - saving time, cutting red tape and cost burdens on the heavy vehicle industry. Reduce your environmental impact with rail transport 🚂 🌱 Managing greenhouse gas emissions is a crucial issue for all industrial shippers. Scopes 1, 2 and 3 define the different emissions categories, considering the entire supply chain. 👉 Scope 3 covers indirect emissions linked to the company's activities, such as the transport of goods. 💡 Rail transport emits 9x less CO2 and 6x less energy than road transport. Opting for rail freight can significantly reduce Scope 3 emissions, helping to improve your carbon footprint. You can rely on Everysens and our CarbonWatch feature to measure and monitor your emissions and value your efforts to decarbonise. Between 2005 and 2030 EU freight transport has a growth rate of 49%. The majority of transport is still covered by road which causes detrimental environmental problems as it releases several million tons of gases each year into the atmosphere and air pollutant emissions. About 30% of the increasing transport emissions are estimated to be caused by freight transport. Did you know that rail produces 9x fewer CO2 emissions and requires 6x less energy than road transport? The project Facilitation Intermodal Transport (FIT) targets the reduction of transport-related air pollution in the EU by introducing an integrated solution for facilitating intermodal transports. The aim is to shift freight volumes from road to rail. Within this project the Intermodal Capacity Broker was created and launched. This intermodal booking portal makes it easier to gain an overview of European intermodal network and book directly. Swipe to find out which results have been achieved! Australia’s future of freight Transport emissions in Australia are rising, complicating the nation’s ambition to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. There is added awareness of the potential for shifting freight from road to rail as a positive contributor. Given the current data and expert insights, it seems plausible. The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has reported that… https://lnkd.in/ejKytKNV #railindustry #rail #railtech

Inside Dott: Our carbon footprint is on par with public transport. 🚌🚅 Eight of our markets operate below 50 g/CO2 per km, with two below 30 g/CO2 per km. Compared to public transport emissions of 29 g/CO2 per km for the overground and 98.6 g/CO2 per km for a bus (Transport for London stats). #transport #sustainability #co2emissions

Prioritising electrification of the rail network so there are as few gaps as possible is among the list of recommendations for the Scottish Government by a cross-party group which is looking to reduce transport emissions. The Sustainable Transport Cross Party Group (CPC) has published its findings into decarbonising Scotland’s fleets of buses, trains and ferries. It has found that a country-wide transition to zero-carbon public transport would allow the country to become both self-sufficient and a net exporter of alternative fuels and associated skills and expertise.

Update on Brussels' plans for abnormal transport reform: ESTA is studying carefully new proposals from the European Commission on improving the efficiency and environmental impact of the transport sector - including abnormal transport. They were contained in the Greening Transport Package and the revision of the Weights and Dimensions Directive on road transport - 96/53/EC - unveiled by Brussels last week. The wide-ranging set of documents included measures to improve and simplify the authorisation process for abnormal load transports along with action to reduce the transport sector's CO2 emissions by 90 per cent. ESTA Director Ton Klijn said: "These are serious and detailed proposals and they merit a considered response. "My first impression is there are signs of a real commitment by the Commission to finally address the “red tape” in abnormal transport permitting – but we have to be careful as this is a proposal and it still has to pass both the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers." For the full story, go to ESTA's website here - https://lnkd.in/eV5-vWbi. We will publish more information as it becomes available. 🌍🚗 At The Engineer's Table, we are passionate about building a more sustainable future! We believe that a sustainable transportation system is within our reach. Many industry bodies in South Africa's engineering and built environment sector are already taking proactive measures to make transportation greener. Let's explore some of these initiatives: 1️⃣ The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is leading the way with their focus on innovative traffic management and intelligent transportation systems. By optimizing traffic flow, they aim to reduce congestion and cut down on unnecessary emissions. 2️⃣ The South African Road Federation (SARF) is actively promoting sustainable transport alternatives. SARF encourages the use of public transportation, cycling, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, which not only reduces carbon emissions but also fosters healthier, more livable cities. 3️⃣ The CESA - Consulting Engineers South Africa is committed to developing sustainable transportation infrastructure. They advocate for the use of eco-friendly materials, efficient design practices, and the incorporation of renewable energy sources into transportation projects. These are just a few examples of the amazing work being done by industry bodies in South Africa's engineering and built environment sector. By collaborating and implementing these initiatives, we can pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable transportation system. Let's continue to #ThinkBeyondRoads and build a better future together! 💚🌱 #TheEngineersTable #SustainableTransportation #GreenerFuture #SouthAfricanEngineering
